How true is this ?!

I'd rather want a more powerful wifi card, which provides a longer range to stay just inside the wifi sweetspot.

Who knows, no one has done any independant testing yet that I am aware of.

I don't know what the range of the WL100 really is, but I am happy with it. My router is in my basement and I can receive in my bedroom -- three floors up and on the other side of the house. I haven't tested outside yet.
