I have tried to either use NX's movie recorder or MicroDV/DSC-F717 to record MPEG movies and played on NX, yet they were all played under Mono mode instead of stereo mode. Is this because all the recording devices I used do not support stereo mode?

Thank you for advices.

Page 94 of the operating manual says audio recording is mono.

I think my DSC-707 will record only mono too.

The only item that is stereo is the audio player through headphones or an external cradle or amplifier.

Since there is only one mic on the NX, it's not possible for it to record stereo sound. Unless Sony comes out with a Clie that has a "line in" jack I doubt that we will see stereo recording on these devices. IMO they aren't really ment as general purpose movie recorders, just a novilty at this point although it did save me when I forgot my camcorder at home on christmas vacation (somehting is better than nothing).

Do you mean that you are having sound only on one of the two loudspeakers?
Otherwise I agree with n2ifp-which I mostly does- you can't record in stereo.

I wonder why they invented the manual??

Nah, no way to record in stereo...and I mean, you really don't need it...Even a lot of camcorders only record in mono. For recording school plays and such, you'd probably want a better camera anywya, but if not, mono is usually fine for those types of thing. However, I THINK the movieplayer will play in stero, if you encode the video that way.
