The SJ33 does have a flash ROM, the newest beta of Jack Flash is able to access it, although Jack sprat is not able to access it yet. Anyway, that should come, then you can dump the programs you don't want, or have newer versions of, and put in other programs!

I used the newest beta JackFlash 2.7b and it still gives me the message that my SJ33 has no flash memory and is not supported by either JackFlash or JackFlash Light.

I also got the 'no flash memory' message with that beta. I have a US SJ33, maybe other models have the flash memory.

I got 3.0b3 none of the 2.x versions support the SJ33. My SJ33 is from the US, I bought it at Best Buy.

Where did you get v3.0b3? The latest version on Brayder.com is v2.6 and 2.7b1.

I think the new beta is only available right now to registered owners. You need to enter your email address and serial number to download it.
So how much space does Jackflash tell you is available? I might buy the program, but only if there's a decent amount of space.
Thanks!

I just installed the 3-0b3 version of jackflash on my sj33. It says i have 63K of free flash. However, No Apps or DBs are listed as being in flash.

I got my SJ33 from www.newegg.com two weeks ago. serial number 3000275. I tried JackFlash 3.0b1 through 3.0b4. They all claim that my SJ33 has no FlashRom. Don't buy from newegg if you want one with flash.
Last year I used SL10, bought from Amazon, also no flash. I'm so unlucky...

If that is a correct figure, then it's not worth the trouble and risk.
On 2nd thought, it probably is accurate, since a lot of Clie s/w is preloaded into ROM (like Bejewelled, Kinoma, etc.) in addition to the OS, and the ROM size is only 4 MB.

It may be correct, although this was just a BETA version of the software. If it will work, i would like to move things like Bejewelled out of flash and onto a memory stick. Its a ok game, but i don't need it in flash. I would much rather use that for more important apps, or even new versions of apps already in flash. BTW has anyone out there heard of chromed?

I agree with you, as long as there's no JackSprat support it's not really interesting...

As far as I know, Bejeweled, Kinoma, etc... come on the bundled CD (i.e. you install them in RAM) and not in ROM.

Yes... :D :D :D
For what it's worth, Chromed is still in a beta stage. There are a couple of bugs left here and there, but this hasn't prevented some users to reflash their (Palm, not Sony, FWIW) device with a modified ROM.
At the moment, I'm rewriting all the database handling functions in order to allow OS5 devices ROM operations (little endian vs big endian) and easier database editing, so in the nxt weeks/months I should be able to release an updated version.
I didn't have much feedback on this project, not many downloads and even less registrations (which I perfectly understand), so right now I'm spending more time caring about my two small boys than coding for Chromed, which explains the slow progress.
I'd be happy to help though if you have technical questions about the ROM which I can answer! ;)
The bottom line here is that even if you modify your ROM with Chromed, you'll need a tool to reflash it on the device, and at the moment the only easy solution is JackSprat. Unfortunately, this is only a side effect of JackSprat, not the main goal of the program, so JackSprat author politely declined my request for JackSprat ROM backup format informations to be able to load/save ROM saved in that format, as they already have their hands full with "normal" users asking for support when they face a problem, and do not want to deal with "hackers" messing their device with custom made ROM images. Of course I do understand their decision, and respect it even if this makes Chromed far less useful (did someone say "totally useless"?) ;)
The remaining solution involves using the POSE Emulator, which doesn't necessarily support the newest models.
If anyone is proficient with the Palm Debugger and has a lot of time to spend, I'd be really happy to help writing a Flash ROM updater, otherwise my technical skills (and spare time) are too limited to even think about trying that myself... :(

I'm pretty sure Bejewelled is in my flash on my SJ33. It survived a hard reset. Even if its only a few K, that could be just enough to put an updated version of something in flash, instead of having to keep an old oudated version in flash, and a new version in RAM.

Both those programs are actually in the SJ33 ROM. Kinoma takes up 100 kb, and Bejeweled takes up 193 kb. Another optional app would be PictureGear Pocket, which takes up 173 kb. So you could potentially have almost 500 kb with these.
I would consider buying JackSprat if I knew I could get rid of these to clear up flash space.
Yes, we can also move stuff out of ROM with JackFlash, but afaik, Jackflash only looks at unused ROM (i.e. only the untagged areas). If so, then it will only see the small amount reported earlier.
:(
So it is only worthwhile if JackSprat is also compatible and can free up the unnecessary stuff in the ROM - but doing that is a different story ...... needs braver souls. ;)
