it is in hi-res and without the virtual graffiti...it looks great...it is no slower or faster then the previous versions though....i only wish it would allow me to put it in flash with jackflash....they still haven't fixed that yet

Ive waited this whole time before ever even attempting to install avantgo because all of the complaints people had. I am glad I waited and I really like this release. (I was an avid avantgo user back when I had a handspring visor.)

There is an app out called avantage (or something similar) that lets you run Avantgo from the MS. You can use Powerrun also but I think you might have problems syncing Avantgo if you do.

No need for Advantage or even PowerRun...

Here is how to do it with avant go (at least this is what has worked for me)... You can move the avant go app. itself to memory stick BUT you MUST leave AGConnect in RAM and you must name your memory stick.

To name a MS you&nbsp; launch Card Info. then choose menu and choose rename card.

After you have named your MS, launch AGConnect and choose settings... Make sure there is a check mark in the box for Use card and make sure the card name is the name of the MS that you just set. hit OK and make sure that Update During Next Sync is checked. HotSync and you should be good to go.

That should be it...if&nbsp; I missed anything I apologize.

Like I stated above..this is what works for me, in the cradle or WiFi.

You dont need advantage or power run. Clicl on AG connet, then the settings button at the bottom and check use card box. Now when u hotsync all pages will go to memory card - great!

ok, got it!! i did a hotsync first. then i changed the settings to use the card. then i synced again and it wrote it to the card. then, that's important, you can delete the file "AGDocsNw" on the palm as the same file exists now on the card (about 900kb in my case).

as well, i put "AvantGo" to powerrun (another 900kb) and everything works fine! finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the reasons people might complain about Avantgo is that it doesn't work for OSX. Version 4 works on OS9 but not on my NX; this beta works on the NX but not on any Mac.

Still waiting (and waiting) to try the damned thing... ;-)

works now there was a locked process,.. once I stopped it the install was fine.............. moved as much as I could onto MS and it takes no space on my internal memory... good show

I know I'm smarter than this ... but I'm having trouble. I've downloaded AvantGo and installed it. I've done all the settings. I've used AvantGo Connect on the desktop and everything connects. When I hotsynch, the device doesn't even try to connect with AvantGo to download content! Preferences and Server Preferences are set on the device! I don't even get the attempt! What am I missing?

I did find that in Hotsync manager mine was set to 'do nothing' by defualt.... also you have to have some of the files installed to RAM not MS.......

That did it! My hotsync manager was set to "do nothing". As soon as I changed that, everything (almost) worked fine. Thanks!

Well, all I can say is this is the first good looking beta of Avantgo for OS5 I've seen. I'm amazed! It's BEAUTIFUL!

I love the hi-res icons (arrows & home) and it seems like the sites are finally getting it together too. Some of the ones I read still have issues, but more work than not.

All I can say is if you've tried it in the past for OS 5 and hated it, give it a try now.

NOW. Better looking than iSilo, IMHO.

I agree that this is actually a good beta. The first sync was slow but everything is running smoothly now.

About hi-res fonts, I noticed that only Wired shows up in the small hi-res fonts and everything else is large. Is there anyway to customize this? Or any other sources that use hi-res fonts?

My install hung when it tried to kill my Netscape processes (Netscape 7). I just killed the systray app manually and th AvantGo install worked fine upon next try.

The reason I like using powerrun instead of putting apps in the launcher folder is because I hate apps in the launcher folder are stuck in the "memorycard" category in the clie launcher.

bug in avantgo?

hi, installed the new beta on my nx70; moved the pages-file to the card accordingly. everything went fine in the beginning; syncing worked and all the news went to the stick.

but now i do get errors during hotsync saying that windows and device file are not matching and that syncing is not possible until updating; well there is nothing to update from what I see.

anybody encountering the same?

yep, i uninstalled the previous used avantgo including the conduit on my desktop. so it should work. here's what i get while trying to sync:

The version of AvantGo on this device is incompatible with the version of AvantGo on your computer. Please upgrade your device software and sync again.

As said, I have the latest beta on my device. Also the "test connection"-option on avantgo.com reports that the connection is fine???

You had some remnants leftover from a previous version from somewhere. I hate to be the bearer fo bad news, but you may have to reinstall it, after complete removal, including any db's.

That's what I had to do, then everything worked fine afterwards.

Ive noticed that if you use powerun, you cannot rename your memory stick or you will get an error message saying that powerrun couldn't find the app because of the name change on the memory stick. Make sure you rename your memory stick first then use powerun for your apps. Or undue your powerun apps then rename your MS then re-powerun your apps. (does that make sense)

I got the problem of "uncompatible version" too. If I move AG file from MS to RAM all works fine (dbases still stay in MS). It is not so bad as having all things in RAM, but not too good, anyway. Btw when main AG file was on MS it first synked several times, and then stopped :(

Yes it is very slow writing and reading from the card... I have noticed an increase in speed when syncing and viewing with this latest release. I&nbsp;think they are working on that issue.

Anseer to ClieMarty. You don't need to uninstall all. I never had avantgo an my nx70v and just installed the latest beta. From the moment I moved avantgo to the card using powerrun I got the same message during hot-sync. Me too i'm interested in a solution.

What about your desktop? The Clie is only half the equation. You guys asked and I am giving the answer.

The slow sync using the MS&nbsp;is addressed in the news page of the OS5 Avantgo Beta. It's still a work in progress, although the latest version is now HiRes+.

Additionally, do NOT use PowerRun or Flash memory! There is no need if you have a memory stick. Put the main AvantGo app in the /Palm/Launcher folder. The only thing needed in RAM is the AG Connect app itself.

I am curious why people are using Powerun to move Avantgo to the Memory Stick?
I manually moved the Avantgo app to the MS using the Launcher and am also syncing the docs to the MS and it is running very well. I am syncing about 1.8K of data to the MS.
Also in regards to the speed of opening Avantgo channels which reside on the MS...it takes approximately 12 seconds for me to initially launch the Avantgo app main menu on my NX70V. Individual channels then only take a few seconds to open. This is very acceptable to me and seems in line with the launch time of other similar apps I have used which are also run from the MS, such as Handstory.

There was an earlier post in this thread by sheik28 and mentioned in other related threads that said if your moving the AG app to MS your need to rename your MS. If you rename your MS then all other apps that you used powerun with will not function under the new name. You will get an error message. So my question to n2ifp is, do you need to rename the MS before moving to MS for it to function? If so then I will need to un-powerun my powerun apps and re-powerun them after I've renamed the MS

No, not rename, just make sure it has a name, use something original like card :D.

I think he got that part.... since I don't use Powerun I can't help him.... but you do so maybe I can translate... ;)

Right, the issue gets confusing bouncing around between apps. I give everything a name at the very beginning, even my hard drives. Basically, I&nbsp;set it and forget it, making it kind of&nbsp; a habit.

Thanks for the reply's I think you've answered my questions. I now understans the MS has to have a name other than MS for AG to function. And I have learned that when you use powerun, anytime you rename your MS, powerun won't find your apps because of the name change to the MS.

I would still like to know if AG will function if placed in flash rom.

I think I know why moving avango-application to the ms using the standard copy funktion (to launcher-folder) or by using powerrun acts different:

Copying to ms-launcher does only copy the prc file which is the avantgo application.

Using Powerrun does by default move all the related files (about 10) which have the same creator-id (some kind of file-name-extension which tells which files belong to the application), to the card. Under these moved files is one which i called conduit.. . I think conduits must be in ram to synchronize while hot-sync.

If you use powerruns menu option "move app only" (move application only" It works fine as all the other files stay in RAM (like when you copy it manually to the launcher folder)

I never had to rename my ms, but it was always named.

Quick question Avantgo users, I tried it a while ago (low res version) liked it but then went on to try iSilo etc, now I've reinstalled it to try the new version and (because I forgot my Avantgo Login) I now have 2 logins (or channels) On the palm in the top right corner I can choose between 2 different "me's", both download almmost the same channels.

How do I delete one of them?

Why even bother using powerun? Isn't easier just to load the file straight to MS and leave AGConnect in RAM? It is only 43K after all, are you that space concerned?

If you are using Windows go to your control panel and launch AGConnect (this is on your desktop). Under servers if you see more than one&nbsp;item in that big white box choose which ever one you want removed&nbsp; click it once so it is highlighted&nbsp;&nbsp;and then click the remove button.

Weird.

My unit must undergo a Hard Reset on a weekly basis (usually when wanting to access a compatable video off the memory stick, but that is another thread alltogether!).

OK, so I sync with my desktop and the databases and stuff get reloaded onto my NX, but when I launch the AvantGo program, the content is fresh, but the graphics are non-existent. For example, only the back and home icons show, but none of the borders or colors do...

What must I do? Reinstall the whole thing?

Right! Do NOT use PowerRun on the AvantGo Beta 5. Place the main progie in the Palm Launcher folder. AG Connect as Sheik28 says stays in RAM. ALL other files should go into the AvantGo folder, except for a bunch of tiny ones, under 1kb. You may have to do some clean up work in RAM after setting it to sync with the card and have Hot Sync'd a few times.

What is this exactly and how can I fix it? I haven't been able to synch AG for over a week. If I need to remove it and reinstall, how do I make sure there are orphan progs?

Since I',m a Mac OS X user, I can't use the desktop application to get my channels, But using Bluetooth sharing I can connect to the net and surf, I have the beta of Avantgo 5 installed, but the server settings are missing. Could some tell me the server settings from the App on the Clie?

Still not sure after reading posts on this thread. I currently have N610C with NX70 coming this week. Currently use Avantgo. Will I need to uninstall the current Avantgo client on the PC as well as download the new OS5 program onto the NX? Is it a matter having having BOTH the PC program AND Palm program updated, or do I just need to update the Palm program when my NX comes?

This just happend to me also.
I had to uninstall Avantgo and all it's supporting files and then re-install it. This cleared up the synchronizing error.
Just make sure you delete all parts of Avantgo in RAM and on the MS. Use the creator view in CLIE Files to make sure you find them all.

Is there a way to set AvantGo so it only syncs once a day (like you can with handstory)? I do a lot of hotsyncs during the course of a day (15-20 at least), and AvantGo slows down the hotsyncs SO MUCH. currently the only solution I have found is to set AvantGo to "do nothing" as default and when I want it to actually sync the AvantGo files, I change it to synchronize the files. It works but it is kind of annoying to do. Any better solutions?

There is an option in the "my avantgo" web page, under "my device", click the channel you require and look under channell refresh. The rest is self explanitory.

I don't know if this helps you but it looks like it might, haven't tried it myself as I only sync once a day.

The same happened to me...what I did was go to the avant go webpage and ran software configuration. That fixed up my problem.

I like mine to scroll a page at a time. I use Tealmaster and JogPage Hack on my NX with AG 5.0 beta.

Are you trying to connect via WiFi?

Can you access the internet now and Hot Sync via WiFi? Those have to work first before trying AvantGo Beta 5.

I don't know if your settings in the desktop PC's control panel and in the Clies &nbsp;AG Connect are properly setup for the AvantGo server. I had to fix it manually in both places for mine to work, plus user name and password.&nbsp;Additionally do you have a firewall enabled? If you have card selected in AG Connect, the card must have a name. If you can use email and the net, then your AP and DSL are okay. You should also be able to Hot Sync via WiFi too.

If you simply depress the jog dial and scroll, it does do one page at a time, undepressed and it does line by line. No need for hacks etc etc

Right, that is so, but do you REALLY want to browse depressed all the time?... I'd prefer it the other way around - since the ONLY time I scroll is to go to the next page... or what if you had to scroll a few pages? I just end up going nuts on the jogdial as it is now - it's easier than pressing and rotating it at the same time...

I know you don't *need* powerrun to run Avantgo from MS but I would like too, as I choose not to use a 3rd party launcher (see Zen Clie post) but would like to be able to categorise the AvantGo Icon. This is possible with PowerRun for other apps but I can't get it to work with AvantGo.

Has anyone been able to run AvantGO (Beta) through PowerRun?
Also any one running Repligo through PowerRun too?
