Has anyone experienced this:
NX73V/E running Navman SmartST Ver 1 SP2 (As supplied with cradle etc.) If free memory drops below 50% SmartST crashes with generic error code, when run from cradle, but runs fine if not in cradle.
SmartST will run fine if out of cradle, even if memory is around 30%.
After a lot of hard re-setting, uninstalling and reinstalling apps, I found out it does not matter what apps are loaded, if the free memory drops below 50% free the software crashes in the cradle.
I swapped over to my NX73 from a TG50(bigger screen), which worked fine at down to around 27% free memory.
Any ideas, bigger maps due to the larger NX73 screen??? That's all I can think of at the moment!
Yes, I have. Check this (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?p=785706) out.
On my NX73V/E I found that SmartSt SP1 was not compatible with the NX73, nor is SP2. When its installed:
- Go to the Setup screen in SmartST.
- Select "Display" fromthe drop-down list.
- Try and change the setting "Default" and watch what happens.
- For me, the screen area around the drop-down list becomes slightly corrupt. First sign something is wrong.
Like you, I would sometimes get it to work our of the CC5, but it would crash when in it and its starts to say "Welcome...bla...bla...bla".
I tried to get clarity from Navman – check this post (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?p=790110) out
Free memory is key on the NX73V and I ran it at around 5.1MB free as reported by CLIEFiles. Not enough memory would also cause it to crash at different times in or out of the CC5.
Also, if you use Fonts4OS5, this used to crash it as well. Fix for me was to ensure it always the "Default" for this application.
BTW, all works OK on my TH55, service pack and all & with Fonts4OS5 :)

After mucking about with this for ages now, I have now got SmartST SP2 working at around 48% free space. I could not get it to work below 50% at first but I used filez to remove the Car Cradle mail & schedule programs as I did not need them. This allowed SmartST to run below the 50% mark as there was less memory being used when in the cradle after removing the 2 unwanted progs.
I e-mailed the Sony Car Cradle dedicated support desk asking why the NX73V needed so much free space to run SmartST, but they have not bothered to reply yet. I think they know they have problems with this product!!!!
I have been running the software in this reconfigured state in the car cradle for a few days now without problem.
Glad you got it sorted - I gave up and got a TH55.
What about that screen corruption thing - do you get this as well?

Yes, just tried it, no corruption though.
It seems to me that NX73 is the most unstable platform with the car cradle, after reading all the related posts. Worked fine on my old TG50 with just 27% free.
What would be interesting, if its possible to find out what gps hardware is used with the cc5, I bet it is not made by Sony themselves. Then find out if there is a Palm OS driver for it. Then bypass the Sony Car Launcher software. After all the PDA does charge whilst in the cradle. If you remove the Car Launcher software the gps does not work. It must be a serial driver through the hotsink port, inbedded in the car launcher.
Just a thought!
I looked at the TH55, but the NX73 came off e-bay and was "as new". Ah well, you live and learn.
Yeah, I figured the same as you and tried to install just SmartST with no CC5 software on my TH55, but alas, didn't work
One thing I did do was to delete the music app as it isn’t much good without a hardwire of some sort to your car stereo, unless you're gonna get one of those FM transmitter jobbies.
My CC5 cradle has just died. I am going through the painful process of Sony Support - they have a dedicated number for the car cradle. They said they'd call me on Fri (13th - eek!) to arrange for it to be picked up - but didn't call back. No surprise there then.
I'm thinking of getting a US CC5 for the transmitter jobby...
