Man, using the NX as a remote is much better than the 600 dollar pronto that i have, and no longer use.
it there a more comprehensive remote program for the NX70, with hirez and such??

people are always asking this question. if you search the forums you will find that the answer is that there is not currently a more comprehensive remote program available for OS5. Pronto Lite and Omniremote are highly customizable learning remotes but neither currently works for OS5. Check RMC Enhancer yahoo group if you are looking for ways to enhance the built in Clie RMC

I got me a real remote and have been extremely happy with it. I don't even worry about dropping it either.
http://www.remotecentral.com/mx500/index.html
I picked up a pair for $116.00 each via mail order.
The Sony Clie as a remote is a joke, awkward to use, and has very poor range!

I personally dislike the built in CliE remote for the simple reason that it is not a learning remote and can't be customized to any meaningful degree.
But in answer to n2ifp's statement about it lacking range I have to strongly disagree! I love nothing more to be sitting in a bar or near a 'public' viewing television and changing channels or adjusting the volume with my CliE. I have been consistently able to do this from ranges in excess of 20 ft. Anyone who needs more distance than that will also need binoculars to view the television.

Okay, but which remote prog are you using??
I am evaluating the Omniremote and indeed n2ifp is right. The range is far behind, which was said to be..

I thought omniremote didn't work on OS5 yet

If you go to their "advanced" download, you'll find a file called something like ORlib that will work on OS5.

but it doesn't utilize the long-range capabilities of the new NX. Something about sony not releasing the API so that they can have access to the full IR port.

Interesting as most of us get only a few feet, honest! The remote has to be less than 5 feet and dead on for direction. So how do you get 20 feet? I am not being a wise guy, I just want to know if you have some secret, Thanks :)!

I keep reading all of these posts and seeing people disbelieving that the nx70v remote can have a range of 5-10-15-20 feet! c'mon! all of these people are referring to the BUILT-IN remote control program. if you download adifferent remote control program than YOU WILL have range of a few inches because you will be using the DATA IR LED. there is a difference. a big difference. the program that came installed on you clie can acsess the more powerful IR LED. so far I know of only one other program that can acsess this MORE POWERFUL IR LED, and I cannot recall the name of the program off the top of my head. omniremote, etc. will all use the much less powerful data ir transmitter and no matter how hard you try you will not get much more than 2 feet. but I personally have had experince controlling tv's from 20 feet away USING THE BUILT IN REMOTE CONTROL PROGRAM. does this clear up the confusion?

Hello Jedix!
Yeah, but it's 802.11 compliant...
I splurged on mine, but I enjoy it. Master of disaster, so I got a Master remote. It litterally replaced 10 remotes, most of them Sony. I used to love using plastic, LOL!

No not that one, the one I had posted in the beginning of this thread.
The MX-500 master something or other.
The other(iPronto) looks like you need a whole studio of engineers to run it :D!

Oops! Sorry, I guess that I wasn't paying attention! Actually, I almost bought the MX-500 a few months ago. I might get it later on. Is it pretty good?

Not only pretty good, but very nice too :).
It has joy stick and back lighted buttons. The light button is on the side and very handy. Almost everything(buttons, joystick, etc) is programable. It's not too hard to do either. It has a ton of features, I can control my infrared fan, X-10 lights and accessories, you name it. I like a remote where I don't have to memorize settings and devices. All learned and self programming can have it's own labels too.
I wanted to be able to see everything on the remote(all screens and buttons) in total darkness and this does it!

More like a Tablet PC than a remote.

i like the old fasion plastic clicker :D
RMC Enhancer does it s job nice. An addon for Clie RMC which adds more functionality and more brands and AMPs.
So there is then no need for a new prog.
But I haven't figured out how I can add my own AMP to this list...
