This has been bugging me now for the longest. You see I'm from the UK and have worked for internet companies, regular high street retailers etc and so know the rights the consumer has on porducts but over there it seems to be a lot different. I've heard stuff like you have to register a product within 30 days or you have no warranty, I've heard of people taking broken CLIE's back to stores and being refused a new etc. So, as I'm planning on heading over later this year and am looking to buy a Cyber Shot I'd really like to know where I stand in a few key areas. I'm gonna state how things are here and I want you guys to fill me in on how it is where you are:
1) Buying a product: You are fully covered for one year for the majority of products, all electrical but obviously not crap like pens etc. You do not have to send off for anything to be covered.
2) Broken product: If the product suddenly develops a fault within the year you can take it back to the store and they have to deal with it. Some try to pretend that they don't but the law states you bought it from them so them deal with it. This can involve returning it to the manufacturer for repair or them simply replacing your product. You do have the right to get a refund no matter what the shop owner says. You do not have to accept credit notes!
3) You don't like it: Some shops offer a no quible returns policy where if you're not happy with the purchase you can take it back for a full refund. This is usually within 14 days.
those are the main ones that I can think of so comparisons and explanations please.
