hey all! was just talking to dmitry about some of what he's doing with the hhe and he revealed that he's just finished up a DA (written in ARM, only a few bytes of 68k says he) that lets you tweak your processor speed by mhz (8-122)... and guess what... it's installed on my TH right now and it's VERY cool.

now, i don't generally put myself in the role of promoting apps (i'm usually writing them), but for this one i have to make an exception because it so improves upon CliePet's awesome research that brought us UnderClocker and subsequently UnderclockDA (wink wink). Granted, Dmitry has insider docs but it's cool nonetheless.

speaking as a programmer, this is not an easy accomplishment and i have great respect for what dmitry has done. he also let slip to me that this is part of his effort to OVERclock the hhe, so we'll see what happens. hopefully he'll post here with the link and more info in a few minutes!!

enjoy :-D

regards, sharky

So, where is it? Also, im guessing what this does is gives you more control over the values, or else you wouldnt be promoting it?

yep, dmitry is watching this thread so it shouldn't be long till he replies

So, after he posts it, we can have another ARM/68k debate?

I am kidding, of course.

Hello, here's the DA. its 776 bytes. Enjoy. You can download it on my site, in downloads section. It's called "TH clocker"

It can set 8-122 MHz speed in 1-MHz increments. Overclocking(possibly) coming soon

as for debate... well ARM ownz! 68K sux.

Ahh, you said 32mhz increments before. Since you said 160 was unstable, i'll bet this means that we are going to be able to overclock. Something near 150 would be really nice. I guess i'll just have to be patient.

As for the ARM/68k debate, of course I agree, but the question was whether you could make a fully ARM app with an interface.

you can :D palm just doesn't want ppl to know about it

(cough cough wink wink - year old news -- nobody cared back then ;-)

Get it to reliably run faster than 122/123 MHz and I'll be impressed...

You do that Dmitry!

Boy I love programmer rivalries. It always ends up good for the user.

dmitrygr, you should probably call it HHE Clocker.

I want to clarify differences between current version of Dmitry's DA and CliePet/Sharky's DA.

CliePet/Sharky's DA uses the undocumented system function (HALSonyCpuCOnfig) to switch the CPU frequency to one of the predefined values. This value is treated as a frequency _limit_, i.e. actual CPU frequency will never go above this limit but can go lower if CPU is not very busy (for example, if you are just reading the book on your CLIE).

Dmitry's DA (current version! He may change this.) is different: it programs the CPU to treat frequency as fixed value, so it never will go above or below this number. Obviously, this approach is worse (in theory at least) for the battery life.

It is also worth to mention that Dmitry's DA does not program additional register (vs HALSonyCpuConfig) to fine tune the setup.

I just noticed that it doesnt seem to hold the clockspeed well when you set it really low.

Part of that "auto" clocking thing the system can do?
