But not compatible with the clie sorry!!!

I sent the following email to the people at real networks at mobilecarriers@real.com:

To whom it may concern

For many years I have been a very satisfied user of your products both on the Windows and Linux platforms.

I'm indeed very surprised that the sony Clie NX and NZ series palm OS 5 devices are not supported by your player new Palm based media player. Do you know that you do support the majority og the OS5 powered devices on the market?

Amusing that you on your site writes "Non-Palm branded devices such as the Sony Clie and older Palm devices such as the M5xx series are not supported at this time." It would be the same as writing "Realplayer can only be used on Compaq branded PC's" unlikely that would ever happen!!!

Please explain the above adressed problem.

Best Regards

I will get back to you if they answer me. Don't we agree that this is totally unacceptable?

The problem is with Sony, not with Real Networks. Sony has kept everything proprietary :(.

Their won't be a Clié version, since Realplayer for Palm is part of a deal between PalmInc and RealNetworks, just like there won't be a Flash player fr the TT. Period.

n2ifp Technology is not the real problem. If RN really wanted to make a version for Clié, they couldm that's for sure

Kinda... the newer version has MP3 support and the usual MJPEG video compression, but I guess that's what you wanna hear. Problem is, it's all about licenses, not us...

I didn't say technology was the problem, just Sony :(!

We do without a lot of stuff because of Sony, a lot more 3rd party stuff could be available to us.

One of my biggest complaints about the NX series is that Sony did a proprietary CD-quality Sound API for the PalmOS5 Clies instead of using PalmSource's official API. I don't know why they did it, but it has trapped us into using only the official Sony player. Because of this, we don't have RealPlayer, an OGG Vorbis Player, or an MP3 player that can handle VBR MP3s, all of which the TT has available now.

Sony want you to go the ATRAC route because copy protected CD's are on the way which cannot be copied via a CD-ROM device unless using a format that complies to the SDMI standard.....

..... we will all eventually be trapped in the world of 'check-in/check-out' and 3 times per track

Yeah, I installed sonic forge and then read all about it. I dont see why we should only be able to checkin-out 3 times.Perhaps someone can explain this.......Sony have annoyed me constantly and yet i repeatedly buy their products.

I have a dvd player which wont play copied cd's (I have some collections i dont like playing, so copying is perfectly legal and within my rights).

I also have an A/V amp and minidisc and they decided I should only be allowed to copy in analog when there is a prefectly good digital Optical link on both...Mmmm?

And the final rant..Why are all the useful buttons on their remote controls under the flap?

yeah Hans - just got the flash stuff from the TG onto my NX thanks to your work.

Thanx hans!!! You're one cool geek - like the geeky (I'm quite a geek myself:)) look of your site - quite an original idea to use the terminal look as a design template.

Thanx =)

Yeah I'm probably a geek, but what the heck, as long as I don't have to spend Friday and Saturday evening at home, I consider myself a happy geek =)

About the DOS box. I considered a C64 interface as well (The first computer I worked with was my brother's C128 when I was 7). Maybe I will make another version (currently I've got quite a bit of work to do).

Anyway. Thanx =)

yehuda.... just plug your NX into the PC and enable MSImport so that files transfer mode is on.... you will now require a MagicGate MS Stick which when inserted will be shown as a device on the top menu...
