I recently decided i was going to upgrade to an nx or an nz, but i just could not justify paying $200 to $400 more for features that aren't that important for everyday pda use.

Things I use my nr70 for:
games
calculator
watching music videos
mp3's
alarm
checkbook
avantgo(reading my favorite internet sites)
showing family and friend photos
documents for work purposes
handy shopper(my grocery list)
and many others

I have no need for the extra bulk of an nr or nx and see no reason to pay that much for the minute extra feautures.
I decided not to upgrade from my nr70u when i found a refurbished nr70v for $369 at clearence club. It looks great, works great, and i pocketed the extra $300 dollars.
By the way, i was lucky enough to sell my used nr70u with a case for $500 after wowing them with the features.

Anyway spend your money how you want, but by all means don't waste it if you don't have to!
Don't waste your money on a case either, it looks best with nothing at all.

Peace out!

I couldn't agree with you more. Initially, I was excited at the prospect of upgrading to an OS5 device, but once the NX appeared with an ungainly, and practically worthless CF tumor on its back ( "practically worthless" for me, at least - I don't have any need for Wi-Fi), I figured I'd be best served sticking with my NR. Sure, the faster processor and better camera of the NX appealed to the gadget-freak in me, but alone, they weren't enough for me to shell out the bucks.

My tumorless NR fits perfectly in my back pocket (sans case) - as such, it goes everywhere with me. And I never have to worry about sitting on it, since if I am sitting, most likely that means I'm on the subway or in a cab and will have already taken it out so I can: watch a cartoon (Simpsons, Futurama, or South Park), listen to some mp3s, read the NY Times via AvantGo, check Vindigo for movie times or restaurant addresses, play a game (Zap!, Billiards, Bejeweled, Breakout, Klondike...), read a book in PalmReader, review MS Word files in Wordsmith, snap some clandestine pics of my fellow subway riders, and yes, even check my schedule in Agendus.

Is my NR perfect? No. But for the here and now, it does everything I want it to do, and even a little bit more. It's small enough to carry in my pocket, and tough enough to take a spill now and then. The battery gets me through a weekend at my countryhouse without requiring a charge, and the screen remains a sight to behold.

Now, if Sony could just find a way to pack all the goodness of an NZ into the form-factor of an NR, I might consider upgrading...

I will upgrade to OS5 when more programs come out that make use of the extra speed enhancements. More games basically, hehe. I really like the idea of being able to watch super smooth video playback (no matter what people say I still think movies in kinoma on the NR70v suck!) on OS5 machines.

I hope they come out with a NES or SNES emulator for OS5 soon.

The more I have read, the more I am thinking that OS5 was simply a temporary solution to incorporate the new ARM processors, and OS6 will release their full capability. For me, I really believe I'm going to hold out for a good OS6 device and keep my NR70V.

I'm also waiting for an OS6 device.  They should be out by the end of the year and my NR70 still does everything I need/want.  The only feature I miss not having on the NR70 is the voice recorder and the speed increase (of course).

Unless Sony comes out with a T-series with VG, I'm hanging on to my NR70V. I want a smaller unit.

It seems to me that for a lot of people, the NR70v is still the best damn pda period. (when it comes to cost, usability, and efficiency)
When the NR70v came out, it was such a big jump from the n series. I see no spectacular changes between the nr and the nz that justify doubling the price.

I just visited CompUSA and looked at all the available PDAs, and I have to agree with this thread. I was struck by how much larger the NX70 is over the NR70. This size difference is very significant. It's huge, the NZ70 must be a monster. The T series easily fits in my front pants pocket, my NR70 does not very easily. Even a little more really restricts mobility. I am very saddened that my NR70 is defective and will have to be replaced -- I don't like any of my options.

I didn't like the Tungsten at all -- it must have some redeeming qualities -- but the best PDAs on the block seemed to be PPC devices, such as one from HP. It was essentially a hires+ Tungsten with a nice screen, same input device as T, and virtual graffiti instantly switched to a USABLE virtual keyboard. And this puppy was smaller than a T CLIE!

I don't want a digital camera; I want a quality PDA that serves as an organizer first (and is small enough to go with me) for both data input and output. A hires TREO with cell phone? That would be a PDA!

The N series isn't for you then.

Sony is just trying to dominate the pda market by placing a pda at every point in the pda spectrum...and it seems to be working considering where they are today compared to a few years ago.

I bet Sony could make a killer ppc if they wanted to.

Do you have an installation disc I could have or even a copy of it (for NR70/E) please?

I agree that the NR70V is the best PDA out there. I started with a USR Pilot, then a Palm III, then a Palm Vx, then I got my Clie NR70V and fell in love. My NR70V fits perfectly in my jacket pocket, reminds me where I need to be, tells me phone numbers I've forgotten, keeps me entertained with games/books/videos/music, and has run flawlessly since the day I got it. Well, I did drop it from about 6 feet once and the LCD started leaking liquid crystal but I bought another unit on eBay that had been (I assume) improperly charged which fried the battery and synch port but left the screen intact; about $20 and 15 minutes later and my NR70V was back as good as new.

A few years ago I got an NZ90... holy cow, what a waste of money. Flip screen? Check. Keyboard? Check. Crisp screen? Check. Camera? Check. OS5? Check. CF card capability? Check. Weighs a ton, crashes constantly, and drains full battery in an hour? Check. Needless to say, the NZ90 sits on a shelf awaiting the day I can find the box and manual and unload it on eBay.

Don't get me wrong, there are tons of games/apps I'd love to have that require OS5 and I get a little bummed by my 128MB memory stick limitation but I have to say, all things considered, I'll keep this PDA until there is no way to keep it running anymore. I only wish there was a processor upgrade or something that could keep the unit intact but allow OS5 and larger memory stick.
