View Full Version : HotSynch on P43.06 with Hyperthreading - BSOD?

I have been plagued with hotsynch problems on my dual athlon PC for too
long. Symptoms are sporadic BSODs relating to palmusb.sys. I have spent
many hours researching this problem, tried many things (like forcing single
cpu affinity to USB driver) and have come to the conclusion that it is not
curable without Palm fixing the bug in palmusb.sys. SHAME ON PALM !!!
After having lost 4 days worth of diary entries and much more (for the n-th
time) I have decided to get a new system based on a single processor.
Has anybody had experience hotsynching via USB to a P4 3.06 with
Hyperthreading enabled? XP sees 2 processors when hyperthreading is enabled,
which has got me worried.
Thanks
Peter

I have a dual processor athlon system and use palm desktop. Mine syncs up fine. Haven't had a prob with it yet. I also didn't have to tinker with anything. The program is running completely stock.

good for you..,how often do you hotsynch? I would go for several days with no problems and then bam, I would lose everything up to the last backup.
I have just spent the 2nd day on a new single procesor system without a problem. If this goes on it will be bliss.
If it weren't for palm I would be enjoying the undeniable advantages of dual processor computing.
I really hold that against palm...

not sure, but if it's only in that file and only on your computer, perhaps you should ask for someone to give the a version of that file that actually works without that bug, i'm not sure if it would cure it, but atleast there's a chance

Honestly mine has been working ever since i built my dual processor system. I guess i hotsync 1-2 per day on average. But there are days i might do 10. Next time i run a hotsync i'll try to see if the program actually uses both processors. My OS is XP too.

For all of you out there with dual processors here is a link to another forum that has lots of discussion on it. http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_story.asp?ID=3914
seems like its a issue w/ the PALMUSBD.SYS file. The 1.4 version is supposed to fix this. I can send you this file if you need it and can't get it.

I have this exact same problem in winXP and I do NOT have dual processors. It's just a single processor P4 2.8 with hyperthreading enabled. I get the BSOD almost 50% of the time I sync. I'm running palm desktop 4.0.1.0 if that helps any. I have an athlon system that doesn't have this problem, though I believe it might be running an older version of palm desktop. Either way, it's really driving me crazy and all the info and suggestions I can find online about this are all for dual processor systems.

Sounds to me like a problem Palm and Sony are refusing to acknowledge and fix. Where can I get this PALMUSBD.sys 1.4 file?
And once I get it, how do I go about replacing the old one?
