a sort of memo pad?

My friend has a new compaq handheld computer, and he activated some app that allowed him to write anywhere on the screen, and as he did, what he wrote became a typeface font.

He used this to add items to his to-do list, and it was so easy and quick and flawless that it was hard to believe.

I realize that I'm talking about apples and oranges, but still I wonder if there is some program that will allow the clie sj30 to do the same.

Thanks,

k

Do you mean like NewPen or Grafitti Anywhere? They are freeware and can work in any application. They allow you to write anywhere on the screen rather than just in the little grafitti squares and what you write appears on the line you are writing. Grafitti Anywhere is better I think because you can go in to the little grafitti spaces and do your punctuation etc. Hope this helps. I am using GA on my SJ30:)

Thanks, cass.

Do you know of a good site for downloading GA, or NP for that matter?

What your friend with the iPaq was using is most likely the Transcriber application that is available with most new PPCs. Transcriber can recognize some handwriting and it will convert it to typeface font. It's an awesome program, and I'd love to see something like it for Palm. And no, NewPen or Graffiti Anywhere do not count. They require you use the character recognition system in the OS. Transcriber does not require this, and it allows you to use your own handwriting.

Is this the same thing I used to use on my Apple Newton? I absolutely loved it! It seemed to learn my handwriting and adapt to it. Then again...it WAS about eight years ago...

Thanks, T1000X. That clears things up.

And, Bison, your note makes me wonder why apple doesn't come out with a ppc of their own, with a transcriber app.
