View Full Version : Hidden files taking up space
I've just installed zLauncher - great, but very slow (despite trying all the speed up tips on this forum).
Looking at the zLauncher file manager view, I see that I have Clipper installed in ROM. It must have installed when I installed the Palm phone libraries and apps on my NR70V.
Problem is, it's marked 'hidden'. I've tried deleting it from file manager view but no luck. It's in Rom ... So I installed Filez and also tried McFile. No luck, still - neither can actually see Clipper in ROM!
Is zLauncher's file manager just making it up ... or does Clipper exist and Filez and McFile just can't see hidden files in ROM?
How do I delete Clipper - any suggestions would be welcome!
Many thanks in advance.

think about it - if its hidden, why are so concerned about?
if a tree falls and no one is around to hear it - is there a sound.
duh
If it is in ROM you cannot remove it.
You are not talking about 'Web Clipping' are you? If yes, that is the original ROM app that came with Clie, not something that you add on later. Most add-on apps that I know of are always installed to RAM, unless you use JackFlash. I decided long ago that I would never use the Web Clipping (282K) so I got rid of it with JackSprat.
FileZ should be able to see ROM files if you go to PalmCard category and put a check on a square box on the bottom right corner of the screen, between 'Filter' button and the word "ROM".

Clipper is a 3rd party application. For it to be in the ROM, you would have to specifically move it there using an application such as JackFlash. JackFlash can also remove it from the ROM.
You may want to verify that this is what ZLauncher is actually displaying before removing any files from the ROM.
Hope this helps.

Had to add as DanT says it can be removed with JackSprat depending on the device if it is in ROM.

Unless you have physically added the said file in ROM, the files residing there are from SONY (or Palm if it's a Palm branded PDA, etc.). No application when installed or launched can put files into ROM, except for JackFlash.
It's most likely related to the Web Clipping feature on the PDA as DanT mentioned. I also have this file on my N610C and I have never used JackFlash.

Clipper is in ROM on my NR. McFile doesn't look at ROM files, Filez has a selectable option to view ROM files or not. ZLauncher can be set also to ROM, RAM, or Both.
Viewing ROM files usually slows things down and without being able to do anything with ROM files, why look at them.

Trees take up space. That's the point.
Think before you post.
I've never installed Clipper myself.
The only explanation could be if it came with the Palm phone/SMS libraries.
However, if apps can't go into ROM upon installation, then the only other possibility is that it was pre-installed on my NR70V ie. it's installed at factory.

I think it is is the Wb Clipping app - I recall the icon from a time I installed it on my T6 a year or so back.
Thanks for the tip about Filez. It now shows when I tick the 'Rom' box: 219k, with around 150k for other Clipper language settings.
I'll check out Jacksprat, thanks.

I wonder why it's in ROM and set to hidden ie. why take up 350k? I guess because there's plenty of room ... but doesn't make sense if it's set to hidden.
I wonder if it contains libraries utilised by other apps, and is therefore best left there?!
Who knows.
I think I'll leave it until I decide to put stuff in ROM and need the space.
Thanks all for your advice/insight! Except for the first wise guy - he needs to see the wood for the trees ;)
