Just a few questions for those who have any Clie with this feature.

1. What kind of fidelity do you get?

2. How much time can you get on a 128mb memory stick?

3. Is battery time diminished more using the voice recording feature, than other features?

I still have not purchased a handheld device, even though I've been looking, and trying to get as much info as possible. While I'd like to have my contacts and calendar info with me, I'd like to play some mp3s and have a voice recorder with me in a small package, and the brand new Sony Clie TG50 looks like a winner to me, unless there are some issues that I'm not considering or don't know about.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

It is okay for music (although that is not what it is for). It has the same compression ratio to 160kbps MP3, but slightly lower fidelity.

I can't tell if the battery life gets diminished, so I guess that says something. Supposedly you can get 13 hours onto a 128MB memory stick, but I have no idea how. Each song of mine takes up about 4MB.

The voice recorded records sounds in the WAV format, and as for specifics I don't have an exact answer. What I can tell you though is with an emtpy card you can expect to get over 8 hours of voice memos. I'm looking at getting me another 128MB stick on my next PayDay just for Voice Memos because I've been using it alot. I can record all of the voices in a 10*10 room as long as the individual is within 6 feet and there is no background noise. This is with the microphone set to high.

The coolest feature of the Voice Recorder/Memo program on the Clie is you can easily export them from a Memory Stick to your computer and play them without any additional conversion. You can also put some WAV files back onto a Memory Stick (as long as they have the same encoding as an original voice memo) and play them back.
