Read about it over at PIC (http://www.palminfocenter.com/view_story.asp?ID=5140). While the CPU info is good, the part that got my curiosity was a rumour about PPC devices with the PXA250 (same as us not so humble NX series owners have) being upgraded to the PXA255 CPU.
If anyone runs across PPC linkage on this, drop a post in the thread. Otherwise, just imagine the possibilities a 400MHz Clie would open up :)

I doubt the swap for a PPC, or any other PDA from the PXA250 to PXA255. From what it sounds like, the architecture is pretty different and voltage changes alone wouldn't allow a hotswap of processors.

Not talking hotswap. More along the lines of the old 8Mb to 16Mb upgrades performed professionally. I understand that the PXA25x CPUs are not like PC CPUs. Digging around the news groups, it sounds like the PXA255 is tweaked internally (new stepping factor - akin to an external CPU multiplier on a PC), but electrically identical.
As a start there is this thread over at brighthand (http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?threadid=74824) (sounds like http://www.pocketpctechs.com have the resources to do it).
