I'm a new forum member and this is my first post, so forgive me if I goof up! This is a great forum, and you're all so knowledgeable -- I use my Palm a LOT, but at a pretty basic level.

I recently moved up to a T5 after years with my trusty Vx, and generally love it. I bought and dounloaded Jot Complete (Jot and Word Complete) from CIC because I had Jot and Word Complete on my Vx and have become dependent on them. Now I have no status bar or graffiti area showing, but I also do not have the full screen display -- the lower third of the screen is blank in most applications.

I tried deleting Jot, without any effect on the problem. I don't think Word Complete is the problem, because I tried the demo version for five days and did not have the same problem.

I know I technically do not need the graffiti area with Jot, but I like having it available, if only for the additional icons -- and I certainly want the status bar back! Can anyone help??

Well, it is very likely it is one of those programs. Look to see what you installed with jot, or if there are any files jot created. I would completely delete wordcomplete too just to see, and then if it doesnt seem to be the problem, then reinstall it. Jot sounds like the kind of thing that would cause this problem.

It is also possible that jot is configured so that you have to disable it before uninstalling it to get the system back to normal. If you deleted it while it was enabled, that could cause a problem. Have you done a soft reset yet? If not, that could very well solve the problem. If none of this works, and you know you had jot enabled when you uninstalled it, you may have to reinstall it and disable it before you remove it. I am not a jot user, so I cant be sure, this is just my conjecturing as to the problem.

If none of this works, backup all of your data in an editable format, ie, uncompressed and unencrypted, perform a hard reset, and remove all but the basic files from the backup file. Only do this after all of the other options have been used. I know you are not going to waqnt to get used to the hard resets on a T5.

Thanks for the quick response. I feel like a complete idiot -- I went back to reinstall Jot so that I could disable and re-delete it, and this time around saw that there is one file for the T3 and one for "Others" plus a "read me" that says "Do not use the T3 files if you have other models" -- well, DUH! The first time around I had just let the unzip program merrily unzip and install everything in the file. Guess there's a reason they say "Read me first . . . . "

The extra files that are not to be installed -- in case anyone else out there is considering downloading Jot for a T5 -- are the StatusBarLib.prc and AppSlipRotate.prc files.

I tried re-installing just the Jot and WordComplete portions, without the StatusBarLib.prc and AppSlipRotate.prc files - no change; tried another soft reset - no change.

Tried renaming the StatusBarLib.prc and AppSlipRotate.prc files in my Backup folder and hotsyncing - no change - then soft resetting - no change. Is there any way to find these files on the T5 and remove them, short of a hard reset? (I also have done a system/warm reset, to no avail.) I have spent a TON of time customizing contact lists and calendar items, which are not backed up on to my office-networked desktop system, and really hate to have to go through all that again. Am I correct that I will lose all of that with a hard reset? Any other suggestions??

If I DO have to go the hard reset route, how do I "backup all of [my] data in an editable format, ie, uncompressed and unencrypted" ?

I can't believe I created this mess for myself! Thanks again for your help!

You should be able to use a file manager like FileZ (from PalmGear) to delete the files and you will be back in business after a soft reset.

If you have a file viewer, you can go and remove the statusbarlib and appsliprotate files. I recommend filez for this. You can get it at nosleep.net. If you can do a warm reset (debug reset, im not sure if the T5 can), it will disable these files from being loaded into the system, so they can be removed.

Bless you both! I downloaded FileZ, found and deleted the nasty little files-that-would-not-go-away (which I previously had deleted from my desktop backup file, but they kept reappearing, so I knew they were still in the T5), and my status bar and graffiti area reappeared! With some trepidation, I reinstalled Jot and WordComplete, and everything still is intact. Hooray!!

Thank you!

Yay, thats good. The VG area is one of those tricky areas that is liable to have problems, because its apis vary widely between different devices. The T5 doesnt ever need the compatability files, that is a T3 only "feature" :)
