According to this article (http://www.wirelesswatch.jp/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1276):
"the Japanese version of the PSP apparently (and unintentionally) works electronic wizardry on Aibo the wonder 'bot as well! Japanese entertainment weekly Famitsu put the PSP through its paces in their 15 April issue and sure enough: pressing combinations of buttons on the PSP will make Aibo do different tricks -– no hacking necessary!"
CliePet/AiboPet, any details on this? :D

Does anyone here actually own one of those things?

Owning a robotic dog never appealed to me, unless it was like Muffit from Battlestar Galactica. Maybe if Sony put fur on these things they would sell more.
I recall that the earlier Aibos had the MS slot in its bum hole. :)
I went to the DS Nintendog site that was listed on that site. Now that's getting creepy. I'm intrigued though.

If I didnt know better (and I do), I would have said it was Aibopet's doing, but it sounds like this is not the case. You can bet he'll do something similar, but above and beyond whatever this software can do.

LOL that is just too cute, that is a great way of putting the DS screens to work.

I would be afraid of killing my DS puppy. :) Then I would probably cry. :(

My speculation is the initial article is bogus. They tried using their PSP to turn on various IR devices (like a Sony DVD player). My guess is they pressed a few PSP buttons and AIBO randomly reacted, so they threw it in the article.
I wish to be proven wrong, but the AIBO doesn't use regular consumer IR (like a TV).
---
The website is only repeating the initial article/rumored discovered feature. No independent verification. Don't pay for access to the full article, it doesn't deliver on the promise of the "full skinny" -- that part is a SCAM IMHO
=====
Back to the main theme.
With a PSP and a Wipeout web browser, you can access web pages (with some DNS hacks). AIBO itself is a web server (httpd) for some things. It is also possible to write additional webpage software to run on the dog alone (using the OpenR SDK)
I thought of writing something like this, but:
The PSP+Wipeout web browser is very very slow. Slow to load graphics, and hard to get a quickly updated video display.
The OpenR walking algortihms aren't too great (ERS-7 especially)
Also the remote control is very lame. The PSP+Wipeout browser has minimum button navigation programming. Remember the PSP does *NOT* have a touch sensitive screen
...
Overall the CLIE (or Tungsten/Tapwave + WiFi card) is still the best AIBO remote control IMHO

Sure, just this once. For general AIBO related questions, I recommend the aibo-life.org BBS

> did you write an app that lets you control your "pets" with ur UX?
Yup, http://www.aibohack.com/clie/aibocam.htm
That only works with an ERS-210 or ERS-220 (with WiFi card). I'm working on something similar for the ERS-7 (WiFi built in)
> if so i would love to get a panda....can ypu shine some light please!
The Panda is a very rare costume (only 1001 made). Very hard to find, but good luck a very cool collectors item.
The Panda is a costume that fits on top of the ERS-31x AIBO. That model doesn't have WiFi (so the CLIE remote does not work - some Japanese models have Bluetooth with a dedicated Bluetooth remote)

Gizmodo.com posted this was a hoax as CliePet speculated.
