Hello all. This is my first post here. It looks vaguely familiar to passatworld.com's forum... Anyway, here's my problem. I received my Tungsten W on Friday after purchasing it on Ebay and immediately browsed Palm's website for updates. After finding the software update 1.0 and downloading it, I tried many times to install it on my Tungsten with no luck - it would always stop at ~30% before the Palm would stop responding to being in the cradle (green light on top went off). I would then do a hard reset on the Palm and start over. After many tries I called Palm and asked them what I could do to get the update to work. They told me to use the advanced update that has you put the phone in debug mode during the update process. After beginning the update, the same problem occured - the Palm stopped responding to being in the cradle. Now my phone will not respond to any resets - all of them force a debug reset. Every so often I can see a small dark gray box in the top left corner after the reset (sporadically). Anyone have any ideas that will get my Palm back to its original state? I really don't want to have to send it back to Palm so they can charge me more than what I paid for it just to get it fixed...

I would recommend calling Palm back, and telling them your problem. If they cant tell you how to fix it, and tell you that it has to be sent in, remind them that their method killed it, and ask if you could have it repaired for free, since you could have lived w/o the update, but now you cant use your palm at all. Thats what I would say.

Thanks. I called Palm yesterday and walked them through everything that happened. They told me that it they would charge me over $170 to fix my phone. I insisted that their software killed my phone and they still wouldn't agree to waive the fee. Once I asked to talk to the supervisor they caved. I'm still waiting on the confirmation email that gives me instructions on where to mail it and what to send, but I'm glad they're taking care of the issue. Thanks again!
