So titled, because I wrote the same post in the UX forum titled "I did a bad thing..." =)
I bought a T5 today. I love my UX50 (and loved my UX40), but the older I get, the smaller that screen looks. And, I find I've not used the wi-fi for a legitimate purpose in a LONG time, and I rarley use the keyboard, though those are the reasons I wanted the UX50 in the first place.
So, I thought I'd give this thing a shot. I do have some questions I'm hoping someone here might be able to answer, and while I wait for responses I'll be using the SEARCH function quite a bit to look for similar posts.
1) I haven't tried to synch this yet. Is it going to work, or will I have to uninstall the current palm desktop/synch manager and install it again, freshly, for the T5?
2) As far as most palm apps go, will I be able to run the registered versions on the T5, or will I have to buy new registration codes for it?
3) Anyone make this switch, or vice versa? Anyone want to take the time to post what they think the pros and cons are as the UX50 compares to the T5?
4) I was disappointed that there's no cradle, and the case/cover thingy is a joke. What are the "MUST HAVE" accessories for the T5?
Thanks!
Jonathan

1. yes you do have to install the new palm desktop.
2. depends on the program.
3. I switched from a tungsten E and think the T5 is much better.
4. Aluminum case, screen protector! (a free one comes with the E but not the T5)Cradle, IR Keyboard, and other things depend on what you want.

For #2, if you used your hotsync name to register the program, it will probably work on the other handheld. If you used Clieskinner, I believe the reg file will work. If the program gives you a special code to input when registering, then it may be taking system specific info to make the code and it will not work on the other device, but it may just be making a code from you hotsync name, and asking you to input it to make the real code, so this option may or may not work.

# 2: Some of the more expensive programs seem to have more hoops to jump through. Skyscape, provider of medical programs, requires a new unlock code (which is based on the unit's unique device ID).+

So far so good... I'm really enjoying the device... and whether I like the functionality of the UX50 more is kind of moot at this point -- I can't go back to the smaller screen... so I guess the UX50 will go on eBay.
As far as app problems go, OmniRemote crashed on it all the time, forcing soft resets. NoviRemote works flawlessly (so far). I haven't had any othe other apps I use cause any troubles. I'm a bit leary, because of all the negative posts, but for me, so far soo good.
The 9 or 10 registered apps I have all registered flawlessly with no need to email the company. The only bad thing is that I *just* registered mobi systems office suite classic. $40 down the drain, since Documents To Go is included with the T5.

You might be able to do a sync with the T5 just to get your base info over (rename the backup folder so it doesn't install anything). You will definitely need to uninstall the Sony stuff for ongoing operations.
2) As far as most palm apps go, will I be able to run the registered versions on the T5, or will I have to buy new registration codes for it?
You shouldn't have to buy new codes.
3) Anyone make this switch, or vice versa? Anyone want to take the time to post what they think the pros and cons are as the UX50 compares to the T5?
I moved from a UX40 to a T5 (through a T3 in the middle for a while). My main reasons for switching from the UX: 1) the T5 screen is much more readable and relaxing on the eyes, 2) it was a pain to have to pull the UX's clumsy form from my pocket or case, open up the clamshell, grab the stylus, then position for typing whenever I needed to record something. 3) The UX was fast for multimedia, but that's just a novelty since I didn't have a 10 gig flash card to store movies on, what I really needed was the T5's speed for business apps like Docs 2Go. 4) the battery life on the T5 is much better.
4) I was disappointed that there's no cradle, and the case/cover thingy is a joke. What are the "MUST HAVE" accessories for the T5?
I don't miss the cradle at all. It just took up too much real estate--in fact it was a liability on the UX to have to carry the cradle around in my briefcase to I could charge the thing.
