Got my th55 for around a month already... fantastic device. I got some queries regarding the installation of programs.
1)I see that some ppl have insane number of programs in their palm. Is there a limit to the number of programs installed? Will it lag the system?
2)How much space is available in my th55 for programs?
3)Can I install programs into my MS and run it from my MS?

1 and 2: The TH55 has 32 MB internal memory. So your question regarding limit and available space is 32 MB.
3: Yes, most programs can be run directly off the memory stick, some may not. Most games can be stored and run off the MSPRO. The only drawback if you install a program to the MSPRO is: you can't categorize them into different folder categories. I suggest you get PowerRun and FlyZipXR. They are programs that can send an installed application in the internal memory to the MSPRO with just a single tap. These 2 programs creates its own icon in the internal memory even though they transferred the bulk of the application in the MSPRO, thus you can be able to categorize them.
Hope this helps.

This thread must be a joke. WHO will buy pda device if she/he don't know how much memory it has  ????? About that question three, you CAN'T miss section "Change destination" in install tool which does pop-up every time when you install softwares using palm desktop for clie.
I don't understand where heck is now day people brains.............
I will be just quiet........................................
Firstly, who said that a pda device must be bought? Cant it be given from someone who doesnt use it anymore?
The set was given to me by (why should I tell you?) and I just had to explore it myself. I'm new to palm stuff so naturally there are some terms which i dont understand. I posted this thread cuz I couldnt search for what I'm looking for. If you dont want to help you can just read and go away. No one is a born genius like you k?
Anyway, thanks cktlcmd, you clarified my doubts with addition info
:):)

PDAMan, I have to agree with Jspan. You're kind of out of line there. if someone asks for help and you don't have it, don't comment. You have been shown much kindness and respect on this forum despite your sometimes halting English. We don't ridicule you because your English isn't up to what some might think it should be. Please don't ridicule a person who comes here asking for help just because their level of knowledge isn't what you think it should be. You're normally a very helpful person and I have to confess that your post was very uncharacteristic...
JSP, there are several ways to install programs. As PDAMan somewhat-rudely mentioned, there's the "Install Tool" that is loaded on your computer when you install the sync software. This should launch anytime you double-click a Palm file (typically .prc or .pdb). There are some options here for where you install. You can also use the Clie as an external flash drive and, once you plug it in, open the expansion card and put programs in the Palm/Launcher directory (at least, I think that's right). If you put a lot on, however, the folder in the launcher ill quickly become unruly and a 3rd-party launcher will be needed. I suggest ZLauncher. LOTS of control over the OS and it can look quite nice.
Keep posting questions. We all try to be helpful but everyone once in a while one of us gets a little aggravated and forgets his/her manners. *ahem. Glares at PDAMan* (He's normally bend-over-backwards helpful :) )
BTW Congrats on being given what may well be the sweetest Palm device ever released... :D

Hmm, I see.. So it fell off the back of a truck eh?
Jk, but cuz you had to go and say that, I gotta ask, how did you get so lucky as to being given a TH?
I'm not using too many italics or am I?

I will be just quiet........................................have you forgotten that not everybody has the luxury of owning multiple PDAs and/or computers? i will openly admit that i am extremely lucky to live in a house with 6 computers (dad has a desktop and 2 laptops for work, my brother has a desktop and laptop, and i have my own desktop), 6 PDAs (brother has Palm IIIXE, Sony Clie NX80, HP iPAQ 1940; i have Sony Clie SJ20, TJ37, TH55), and 3 TVs (32",27",15") among 4 people. but i will never joke about other people not knowing (sometimes relatively) unimportant technical details about technology that is popular among nerds like us :D .
Will it lag the system?that depends on what you've installed on your TH55. some apps called 'hacks', as you may have read by now, can really slow down the system as the run continuously in the background. but this is not always the case. how much your system slows down, if at all, really depends on what you've installed, and what you have running in the background and/or foreground.
hope you enjoy your new TH55 (no matter where you got it from ;) )!!!
oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

Thanks everyone.
Ion-Control-- Yea I've figured that I have to change something in my sync to install a program into my MS. But I guessed that I dont really need to install stuff into my MS cuz 32 ram is sufficient for me at the moment.
Joker9989--Erm, he's got treo 650 as his new wife, so I got my th55 for free..

ZLauncher can categorize the app in MS. They are seamlessly blended with those in RAM. You still can distinguish those apps in MS by a tiny "card" icon stamped on top-right corner of the app's icon on the particular ZLauncher "Tab" screen where you put the apps. See the Battery Test icon in my "Tool" Tab below. ;)
The icons with "chip" stamped on bottom-right corner of the icons (e.g., Card Info, MSBackup, and Sound Utl) indicate that those apps are the ROM apps (that come originally with TH55).

DanT, this is totally off topic, but I just saw your location and had to see where you are from. Is it India or China? I love that this community has such a diverse cultural base.
Nice car BTW. Do you have one of those?

29°4'N/95°27'W is in good-old Texas gulf coast my man, 50 miles south of Houston, +/- 3 meters from my front door if my GPS reads accurately. :D
India or China would be in East longitude from Prime Meridian, which I guess somewhere near London (Greenwich?). ;)

that could be a problem. Your TH55 is definitely messed up. There's no way you can install something on to your TH55 taht is already there inside the ROM. I don't know why your TH55 would be complaining about missing libraries that are native to the TH55.
You'll have to try a hard reset to fix that. If a hard reset doesn't fix it, you've really done something wrong someone along the road.
