Hello all,
I'm using BackupBuddy VFS on my T665c. Tonight when I went to backup I immediately got an error. Something about file A (with a slash over it) .pdb ((0x2A08))

I told it to ignore the error and keep going. Then when it was deleting orphaned files it said it was unable to complte operation forA.pdb ((0x2A08).

I told it to continue and it hung until I reset.

So I found that A.pdb file and deleted it. I did a hotsync and then attempted to backup again. All was fine until I reached the deleting orphaned files section. It said it was unable to complte operation forA.pdb ((0x2A08). If I tell it to continue it just hangs until I reset. If I tell it to end it goes back to Palm Os as usual.

Whats up with this?

See the FAQ at the BBVFS website (www.bluenomad.com). BB has problems with files with non-conventional filenames. The problem actually lies with the OS. I find that all is fine if I switch BBVFS to Advanced mode (Menu/Options/Advanced), then del-select the offending file, then leave BBVFS in Advanced mode.

I can not deselect the offending file as it does not show up in advanced mode. Most likely because I deleted it from the handheld all ready?

I disabled my hacks as the FAQ mentioned and that was no help. (didn't think it would because I've had the same hacks for more than 6 months).

It must have something to do with that funny character that is over the file name. But why can't I find it to delete it?

You guys are a help. Still can't get it to backup right. And to make things worse. For some reason all of my lesson plans from tomorrow on that I stored in my "Lesson Plan" program have dissapeared. Today's plans are there, as are yesterday's and all previous plans. I lost 2 1/2 weeks worth plans, hours of work. I'm sure it is related to this whole fiasco. Can't someone help me?

Probably had to do with that file you deleted, restore it try looking in your backup directory on the PC........under something similar to c:\programs files\sony handheld\(your hotsync name)

Nope, the file is gone from my handheld and my PC.

1. Is it not somewhere in the archive folder for deleted files?
2. What software do you use for the lesson plans?

No I searched through all of those folders. I'm not exactly convinced it was ever a true file, its just very odd.

I use a program called "Lesson Planner." I managed to find an older file and restore what was lost there. But this backup buddy thing is just a pain.

I backed up to a different MS and it worked fine.

When I go into advanced mode in Backup Buddy there are two files with no names (I swear one is the offending file). I go to remove them from backup and it won't let me.

You might also try a file management utility like Z'Catalog, to see if you can remove them from your handheld that way.  I cannot guarantee results if you do, however. http://www.eblong.com/zarf/zcatalog.html

I don't see how to do this.

...if you can remove them from your handheld that way.

I do not believe the files are on the handheld. I believe Backup Buddy just seems to remember them and I can't get it to forget them. If that makes any sense.

Try the tech support at BUB. I have used them for this same problem and they were great. Very responsive.

You might want to consider changing your backup program. After having similar problems with Backup Buddy, I switched over to Botzam backup at www.botzam.com (http://www.botzam.com). It's been well over six months, and I've never had a problem. Selective "restores" and "backups" in addition to full ones are so easy.

I finally inserted my MS into a card reader and deleted the backup folder. I did a new backup and everything is fine.

Good work! Sounds like it was a corrupted folder. I've never encountered that in all the years I've used BB. It's hard to know which piece of sofware was responsible for the corruption. But glad to hear you fixed it!

(I just spent a very frustrating weekend getting my family's LAN back on the Internet behind our trusty LinkSys BEFSR41 router after our ISP "upgraded" to PPPoE -- turned out all I needed to do was use .net instead of .ca on the ISP's domain name. Grrr.)
