Finally, this is exactly what I've been asking for since Painter 6 first came out in 98 or 99. I even called and made several requests for a stylus like this:

http://www.wacom.com/art_pen/index.cfm

And now that it is here, it doesn't work with my Intuous 2 12x18 and they don't make an Intuos 3 in that size, which is its minimum requirements. :(

My attempt to make one in 2003, since Wacom still hadn't caught on:
http://www.bainne.com/fun/variable-stylus.gif

I'm getting the Cintiq 21" which will use this, but I still wanted to use my 12x18 on my HD 30" for area painting and working zoomed out, so I would like that new brush for my current board also.

And Photoshop CS2 still does not support 64-bit memory!!!

I could take up calligraphy and painting again. :)

you are cruel.... my boss turned down the Centiq and 30" display.... :( new computer, no new monitors.... waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

lucky bum. :p ;) :D

Poor us. :(

Just change your position to "artist" and these things become mandatory. :)

oooo.. there is a way to get the 30" for me.... I will have to make sure they adapt well to the 30" apple and see if work will trade my two 24" to someone else and I get the 30"....

:D thanks!! :D

If I were all touchy-feely with my screen, I would get that thing. BUt I'm not into touching it. Once an a while I'll wipe, but that's it. :)

I just want that freaking paint brush stylus.

I prefer a brush and pen too, but if it takes getting a touch screen to get me an apple monitor, hey. :)

JackAxe
04-05-2005, 02:44 AM
And the Apple G5 to "properly" drive it, then I'm all for it tooo. :D

JackAxe

Go ahead, stick your toungue out. Unless you re-write the GUI for windows, it will be chugging along with its primitive "2D accellerator" to drive a screen of this magnitude. :D

<]=)

SamuraiCatJB

but since my primary job is to write 3D landscapes.... I still need to do my subsection screen capture capability.... just image take an image of a landscape at full resolution of a 30" monitor.... Then turn it into 4 quadrants of the same view, render independantly, and stitch together. If done right, you can then subdivide each quandrant into four mour. By choosing the levels of subdivision, you could capture huge poster sized images. Of course I coudl do that with my existing 24" monitor... but it wouldn't be as much fun. :)

JackAxe
04-05-2005, 01:35 PM
And if you were using a G5, you would need to also work with Quartz, which is already tiling and compositing the screen. So since, it's already breaking the screen down into quadrants, you could just record its captured data. :)

I remember the days of slow GUI's back with OS9. For nostalgia purposes, I'll boot up my PC running XP just to experience the sloooow once again. :D

what is this 64bit memory?... I write to graphics memory.

Memory Interface 256-bit

You know, I can now freaking allocate more then 2 Gigs of RAM into Photoshop. :D

I've been waiting for this, for many many moons now. First an actual paintbrush-stylus, now this!!! :D

Yeah, you did. :)

<]=)Just then. or earlier, because he was just asking the question there, not actually saying you were nerds. BTW, what kind of computer do you have? And how much RAM too.

JackAxe
04-05-2005, 09:30 PM
just then. I was being sarcastic. :)

I have several computers and I shall list them like a super nerd:

Mac G5 DP 2.5, 5G Ram, 750 Gigs HD space, 6800U, 30" HD Cinema display. (Soon adding a Cintiq 21UX (http://www.wacom.com/lcdtablets/index.cfm) , another 4 Gigs of RAM and another 250-500 Gigs of HD for my AfterEffects projects. :) )

Mac DP 1.25, 2G RAM, 400 Gigs HD space, TI4600, 22" CRT. (I answer e-mails on it now and use it for video encoding. Its 128-Bit SIMD still kicks major arse for these things.)

Powerbook TI 1Ghz, 1G RAM, 60Gig HD. For working at a client's office, showing work in progress and presentations.

XP2500(Was overclocked 3200, but I brought it back down, because of my VCore fluctuating.) 1G RAM, crap HDs(IBM), 9500Pro. I use it for most games and rendering.

Borrowed P4 2Ghz. Use it for rendering. I also had borrowed a MP2800, but I returned it the other day, so that my friend could use it for compiling.

My PC and the borrowed PC share the same 15" LCD.

He's lucky.... I only have one PC.... unless you count all the ones at work... ;)

or the ancient mac holding up the end of the bed... or all the left over equipment I have donated or still have sitting in the closet... or...

JackAxe
04-05-2005, 11:39 PM
Luck, it was countless of hours and many sleepless nights to get too this point. :)

And lots of credit. I also have an old G3 in my closet. Was a great computer. I would like to get it up and running again just for the good memories. You should sell your much faster PC and get a Mac Mini. =p

SamuraiCatJB

mine at work were bought with your tax money... so I don't count them... :p

I'd rather have a big mac unless. Do I at least get a happy meal with a mac mini?

I probably forgot a few things. I'm also getting a rareish Apple Network Server soon.
I have an excuse for my computers, I actually work in the computer field itself, not some freaky 'useful' thing!

Here's whats inside my messy Lian Li case:

Abit AI7 MB
P4/3.0GHz (overclocked to 3.3)
DDRAM 512MB
HD 120GB SATA
ATI A-I-W RADEON 9600 128MB
DVD+/-RW PLEXTOR PX-708A

You have a Pacard Bell. :D I shouldn't laugh, there's an old Acer P60 in the garage and the very first Pentium Pacard Bells had Intel Neptune boards that I recall, so they were actually really good systems.

I really like the Lian Li cases. Especially this one (http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20040607/miditower-32.html), that looks like a G5 without the handles and added wheels.

How are your guys VCore, is it stable or does it flutter like mine?

On my Athlon systems I have the really expensive filtered power supplies with the fancy sleeved wires and stuff, so all of my voltages are within .1 volts of perfect. The A64s have variable VCores because of the Cool & Quiet technology, and my regular Athlon.. I hacked it up to enable Cool & Quiet, so it's VCore changes according to the load, too. I get really good temperatures under load, too. (34 on the 3800, 28 on the 3000, 50 on the 3200)

zackepceo

It should be noted that the Athlon 64 systems aren't actually mine, just other computers that I have access too and have Netrender clients installed on. Tis really a shame, too. The 3800 has a 6800GT, and the 3000 has a 6600.

My only computer at home is a meer Athlon 64 3200 with 6800gt, 1gig of 3200 memory
DVDRW-DL
2 x 200gig SATA
1 x74gig 10k rpm SATA (Windows)
1 x36gig 10k rpm SATA (Linux)

At work I have a dual 3.0ghz Xeon, with 6800gt, 6 gig of memory, with 5x74gig SCSI in RAID, + 2x400gig backup drives and a dual 2.8ghz with 2 gig of memory with 5950 graphics, 5x36gig SCSI in RAID.

The one I just ordered at work is dual 3.6ghz EM64t XEONs, 8 gig of memory, 5x147gig SCSI in raid, +2x74gig SATA (windows and linux), plus raid card on PCI-X with 4x400gig SATA in RAID for "online storage". and 6800 PCI-e Ultra 512Mb graphics... :)

No "new" monitors... he turned down the monitors.... I am stuck with 2 x 240T Samsung 1920x1200 LCD panels plus an 18" Cintiq. poor me... poor me....

That's OK, laugh if you want. I actually owned a couple of those (Packard Hell's) many years ago.

That is a cool case. I love my Lian Li. Light weight, well built, lots of room.

My system and Vcore are as stable as can be. Obviously this is not an extreme overclock, just a nice 10% boost. My old system had an Athlon XP 1900 running at XP2500. But that sucker was hot, and loud! Now I'm just using the stock CPU fan and I was able to remove one case fan. Much quieter. :)

JackAxe
04-07-2005, 03:38 PM
My core has always flucuated. My friend pointed out his system, which was overclocked way higher than mine had a stable VCore with absolutely no flucutation. Mine wobbles even when in idle mode. My power supply is an Antec True Power, so he and his brothers said it was most likey the mobo.

My board is a MSI K7N2 Delta and I've read on-line that plenty of other peeps have no issues with it. I've always had issues with this board and really high heat, so I'm thinking that I got a partial lemon. Blah, I like the board, so If anything I'll just live with the VCore and stay at the slower XP2500 speed. Warcraft is a little bit slower, but that's life.

I have a Super ATX case with a million fans, it's noiser than a wind tunnel.
