after reading all the posts here on 1src, i decided to buy both, test them out, and write my own review.

i own an NX70V (obviously if you didn't have an NX/NZ your choice is a no-brainer since the WL100/WL110 can't be used with yoru clie).

Package Contents

WL110: CF Card, Hard Carrying Case, Manual, CD
MSW1: MS, Manual CD

Winner: WL110 because it comes with a hard case!

Physical Build

WL110: Wider but shorter, has less sticking out of the Clie, seems more robust. Worthless green power LED, green link LED.
MSW1: Much longer, a little thinner, sticks out a lot, and (you can't tell from the pictures) but the actual antenna part is thicker than the MS stick part. Bright blue LED that is cool for 5 mins, annoying for the rest. There is no LED window, so it kinda fades through the plastic.

Winner: WL110 sticks out less, more robust feeling, and it might not be as thin, but it "feels" smaller. Seems like it is worth the $150 (vs. $50) cost.

Software

note that both cannot co-exist on the system. i could remove the WL110 software by doing the "UP+RESET" (warm?) reset and deleting the files. i backed up and hard resetted to remove the MSW1 software (but it may be possible to do the warm reset, i never tried).

WL110: NO SNIFFER.
MSW1: Searching application

Winner: MSW1 by a long shot because that application puts all the settings in a nice easy to find place (as opposed to going to Prefs panel) and has a search (not technically a sniffer some people say) application! It found APs I never even knew existed.

Performance

WL110: NO SNIFFER.
MSW1: Searching application

Winner:

In terms of connectivity, the MSW1 wins. It can find APs and so you will know what you are connecting to. The WL110 blindly connects, and often connects in ad hoc mode even if there is no connection present!

In terms of battery life, I have not done extensive testing but my intial tests showed that MSW1 had a bigger initial drain than the WL110. Again, I haven't fully tested this.

In terms of distance, I have not tested this yet. BUT, since the MSW1 could pick up an AP and when I tried with my WL110 I could not, the MSW1 appears to be the winner here.

Overall:

I wish I had the WL110 with MSW1 software, or the MSW1 were shorter (less protrusion). Otherwise, the MSW1 wins hands down!

I just bought the Hagiwara WiFi MS. I plan to try it this weekend if I get time.

If anyone is looking for one, Semsons.com has them very reasonably priced.
