talked to a friend of mine who was describing all the different functions built into microsoft money. this looks like something i can use. i have been using splash money, and i've had to tweak it, and it can only do certain things. and handyshopper is not what i want.
is there a comparable app to microsoft money for the palm OS?
what i'm looking for is the ability to have a search function that filters down to category, time frame, and category within a time frame.
thanks

Ultrasoft Money works directly with MS Money it seems, there is quite a bit of control over syncing features. But more specifically, you can run reports and see spending by catagory or payee etc.

If you use MS Money on the desktop and want to sync seemlessly with the desktop without doing extra steps, then Ultrasoft Money is the only way to go. But it sounds like the original poster wants a stand-alone app on the Palm. None of the Palm OS finance apps will have all the features of MS Money, however. US Money does have some reports, but they're pretty basic, and I personally never use them (though I do use the reports in MS Money all the time). I need the direct syncing ability, so I actually haven't tried any of the other Palm finance software, but from looking at descriptions, it looks like some of the others have more bells and whistles if all you want is to use them as a stand-alone.

I cannot agree with RLDUNN more - I've been using Ultrasoft Money for almost a year...this is one phenomenal application!!!
If you want to use this app standalone, it's more than capable...and I believe there is a version specifically for that purpose...it will allow for reconciliation, reports, etc...
It also allows you to enter recurring bills and deposits and has built in reports to see where your money is going...
Another great app to look for if you're only looking to do your checkbook on the Palm is PMTxl - this is very full featured...but I like Ultrasoft money better...worth every penny!

I use Quicken on my desktop and I sync with Pocket Quicken on my handheld. Works wonders.

i will try those. it seems most of the expense trackers i see debit from an account, be it credit card, mortgage, bank account, whatever. i don't need this capability.
i need a simple daily cash expenditure app, with the filter functions i detailed.
right now, i use splash money, which i need to tweak. i enter all my expenses as "deposits" so that it gives me a running total. otherwise, it will only credit a debit account. and splash money doesn't filter down to categories or time frame.i'll try us money and quiken. thanks

i think you should check out QuikBudget. There're no debit credit, basically just deposit and spending. You can categorise the wallets accordingly. But i'm not sure if it can filter it by time-frame though.

I really like Pocket Quicken. However, I hope that they soon update the program to allow one to update sync'ed entries. Currently, you cannont edit a register entry once it is sync'ed with Quicken. You must edit it within Quicken and then sync it back to the PDA.

Couldn't agree with you more about Quik Budget. I love Quik Budget, and use it with PocketMoney that keeps track of my checkbook. PocketMoney lets you upload and download data with your desktop programs such as Quicken, MS Money, spreadsheets and databases on the Macintosh, Windows, or Linux desktops. It links with Quik Budget on the Clie, so when a transaction is entered in either one, it is reflected in the other. You have to use this version for that feature...PocketMoney 3.0 Beta (http://www.catamount.com/PocketMoneyBetaPalm.html)
I have used both for a couple of years now, and couldn't do without them.

I also like PocketQuicken. I used to use SplashMoney, but I've realized that PDA form is just too restricted to use as a full-fledged personal finance program. I only do simple date entry as well as doing a quick glance in my financial situation from PocketQuicken. Anything more, I use Quicken.

I agree that for real reporting the PDA is limited (at this time). However, I do believe that PQ could add some simple budgeting reports to improve the usability of the software e.g. add Totals to the Budgets screen so that one can see at a glance the total budgeted figure as well as the total remaining figure. This would not be difficult, and would significantly enhance the Budgets screen UI.

Are you sure about this. I have PocketMoney and have used V3.3 for ages. However, I am sure that the link only works from Quick Budget to PocketMoney - not the other way around. If it is and I am missing something, please tell me how it works.

Give Mobile Systems Mobile Money 2004 a try... They have unlimited 30-day trials for all their software and as a Mobile Office Standard user (Word, Access, Paint), I can vouch for the quality of their software and support.

Yes, quite sure. I'm using QB 3.2.12 and PM 3.0.
If I enter a withdrawal in PM, it is reflected in QB. And if I enter a new expense in QB, it is reflected in PM.
I think the trick to it is to make sure you have the categories set up, and remember to select them when you do a transaction.
To give an example, here are my QB wallets. I have 2 main ones...checking and savings. I don't have any sub wallets under savings, but under checking I have several. They are:
clothing
entertainment
gifts
grocery
home
Since I have them set up in QB, they show up when I do a transaction in PM. (Also, you should see a link tab at the top of QB that you can tap that takes you to PM.) So, when making a withdrawal while in PM here is what I do:
Account: checking
Category: grocery (there is also <--splits--> here which allows multiple categories to be chosen)
To: Walmart
Amount: $50
In doing it this way, all transactions entered in PM show up in QB. If you need more help, maybe I can help. Or, there is a yahoo group for QB which Don or Scott will help with any problems you may have.
