View Full Version : Looking for a "shooting game"

I have a Sony Clie NX70V that runs on Palm OS 5.0
I am looking to get a simple (but with good graphics) "shooting game"...
I like the description of Master Thief 3D, but I believe it is more like a strategy game. I just want a simple game that I can play on the bus, commuting to work ...
Are there any "come into the room and shoot them" kind of games with good graphics? :D

not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but sixshooter is lots of fun.
siberianstrike is a good start but it is incredibly short. the registered version should be the demo. don't bother purchasing it.

I think I can suggest something that you might be looking for.
Snorgg, Island Hopper, and Chopper Rescue
These games are by the same developer. The games are not hi-res but very good.
Smooth animation and great arcade play.

Here's my favorites:
1. Astroid (Astraware: sadly, no longer available)
2. ZAP! 2016 (64K color version of ZAP!2000)
3. AstroCommander
4. Galax (Perfect conversion of Galaxian)
5. 3D StarFighterPilot

I wonder what happened to Universix. I had been waiting for a clone of the arcade hit Gallag (Gallaga) but only have found a demo version yet.
It is a great clone, but the speed gets faster as you destroy your enemies.

I used to play a old DOS shareware game on my now-ancient 486 called "Mutant Space Bat of Doom" - best clone/interpretation of Galaga I ever played. :) I still has a copy, not sure it runs on Win2K, though.
Anyhoo, the closest clone that I know of Galaga for PalmOS is Astron.

Unfortunately, the animation seems to suffer from too much frame skip...

Hey AlbertLu,
You should really see Universix, it is very close to the original Gallaga (but no music).

I used to play Galax all the time.. I love that game! I just loaded version 2.2 onto my NX though, and it won't run right. It runs in the usual mini-double window caused by the Sony hi-res. Such a bummer :(

Thanks. The screenshots look very promising. I will definitely give it a shot. Those interested can go to:

I wonder why the NX doesn't have the "Disable Hi-Res" for different apps like the NR did.

My sentiment exactly! In fact, I would expect this to be the case for ALL hi-res models.
Case in point: Has anyone tried latest version of Chessgenius that support Hires? It's butt-ugly at hires, whereas the lowres version is pretty.
At least developers should have an option build-in to their apps for lowres/hires in case (1) there is speed penalty in hires and (2) they are terrible artist :D.

A 'shooting' game is something like zap2000 or galaxy, while serious sam and doom are called 'first-person shooters'
Just wanted to clarify that.
