Is anyone using the Memory stick pro media in their TG50?

Do you need to download a patch? where?

I heard that it does not play mp3s of video, is that true? Is there a patch for this?

Picked up my TG50 on Saturday. According to the instruction manual, it can use MS Pro with a software patch/upgrade. I haven't heard anything about when or where this patch is available, but I did refrain from purchasing any memory sticks because I want to wait until I can use MS Pro.

Hope it is soon...

The TG50 will require a patch to fully use Memory Stick PRO, which is not yet available.

If you are getting antsy, I heard from a friend in Japan with an MS PRO and an NX70V that he can use if for simple tasks, like reading/writing files but not for streaming, like playing video and MP3s. This is, of course, without the patch.

Maybe I'll get on my friends at Sony and see if they'll let me know when the patch will be available.

I am using a TG50 and a MSPRO 512mb and I have no problem playing movies and music. I don't seem to get the 1 second then shut off error. I have not installed any patches or upgrades. I literally put the card in, downloaded some files and played them without a hitch. I have a 1gb card sitting at my office which I will try later but I assume that if the 512 works the 1gig will be just fine

Have you had a change to try the 1g yet?

The 1 gig works like a charm! I have the whole Star Wars Trilogy on the 1 gig'er. I am in geek heaven.

Works for me as well. Maybe Sony doesn't have their patch info straight.

You shouldn't need the patch. It seems to work just fine without it. I have 256mb and it sees it with no problems. Only sees 237mb, but it is better that 128.

Yeah... it is fine if only you don't need to put JPG/GIF/BMP/DOC/XLS/PPT/zip files etc... in the memory stick which i need it very badly.... If i can't put all these files in the memory stick pro, why would i need to have 512MB? Any apps need that space?

Voice and video and jpg can't be transfer to PC at all too!!!

I thought it was an already established fact that the TG50 is MS Pro ready from the factory, while the rest of the OS5 Clies (NX60, NX70V, and the NZ90) needed a patch to run MS Pro.

Why can't you put them on the MS Pro? Don't they fit on a standard memory stick? If they do, then there should be no problem with using a Pro. Everything I had on my 128mb stick fits and works just fine on my 256 MS Pro.

Plessdude that's great that you were able to get the star wars trilogy onto a MS  Just curious, when you converted a movie thru image converter, did it split the converted files or is it just one file. I seem to remember the Image convertor program has some sort of size limit and break large videos into chunks. What version of Image Convertor do you have?

Thanks

Does it all mean that the TG50 will be MS Pro ready from the factory? Meaning you will be able to write streaming music as well as movies on it?

Mine worked with the 256mb one right out of the box. It shows only 237mb for the 256mb stick, so I guess I loose 20mb, or about 7-8% of the storage space. Is it possible this patch will allow for the use of that memory?

Plessdude, may the force be with you! The Trilogy on a stick. Does it get any better than this?

Once in a while technology is a beautiful thing, ain't it, folks?

Let me ask you, how easy is it to jump to a favorite scene? I've notice that if I stop a long clip in the Movie Player, it jumps back to the beginning. Do you have this problem?

Give some gory details!

My TG50 is working fine with a MS PRO 256MB , straight out of the box.
No patch needed.
Could not see if the maximum speed is achieved.

zeltzer, do you got problem using the ms import with your PC? Can you copy the jpg / bmp / doc / xls / ppt files into the MS Pro? The patch is for the above mention (ms import) only.

JoeT,

That is the most amazing part. I can skip past all of the ewok crap and go right to the final duel without missing a beat. I was amazed that i could do this without having the Movie Player either freeze up or explode. I might be doing something wrong when I encode to the clie movie format but it breaks the movie into two file, one about 100mb and one about 70mb. I guess that is left over from the old 128mb days (the dark time). I only encoded them at "good" quality which on a small screen looks awesome! The only problem I have now is that I can't find a version of the trilogy that is not formated to 672 x 242. I may just break down and re-encode them from laserdisc and start from scratch. God damn it when is the 5 gig stick coming! It seems like we have been stuck on 1 gig for almost a whole week

That's awesome Plessdude :D

So tell me, if the movie is split into two files, is movie playback seamless when it switches from the end of first file to the beginning of the next one? or do you notice a pause?

@TheShadow,

It is split into two files. When one "reel" ends you need to switch to the second one. Kind of pain but if you ever had laserdiscs in the past you would already be used to it.  I am using the the Image Converter that shipped with the tg so I assume it it the latest version.

Actually, no one have come close to a definite answer. Can anyone enlighten me on this:

Without the patch, can PC actually recognise it as a drive when connect to a TG50 with MS Pro using the Export and Import software? (In short, is it functioning completely the same with the existing memory stick and magic gate?)

Really ? then its good for me because I'm getting tg50 soon.
But I saw the following specs on sonystyle:

Audio player requires Memory Stick media (sold separately) to play back music. Compatible with MagicGate Memory Stick media. This product is not compatible with Memory Stick PRO media.

Sorry guys but this is a dead issue. The MSPRO works, you can access it through MSIMPORT it mounts as a drive (In XP) and you can use the Sony memory stick reader to access and mount as well. Playing Audio and Video is seemless. Maybe that article had something to do with using the Sony ATRAC (sp) format which I cannot say works since I have never bothered to re-encode any of my MP3's. IT WORKS! End of issue.

The MS Pro also is a Magic Gate, it has it on the stick.
