Greetings. I have been getting many Fatal Alert messages. This has been so since day one when I got it. Just wonder now if it is normal? If not, is there a way to rectify the problem? Also, when I hotsync, the log says 'ok' for quickinstall but nothing is installed. What's the problem? Thanks.

With what device do you have? And you say that this has happened since you got it? Did you have a palmOS PDA previously and synced the old information over to the new (I am figuring you have T5 just because it is a common issue). If you can shed more light, there are plenty here who will help you get a stable device.

I am new to pda use and this is my first. In other words, I did not sync it from any old pda. My main problems currently are two:
a. Fatal alerts keep occuring.
b. Cannot quickinstall. However, a check with my log says that it is ok but nothing is installed.

Thanks.

a. the fatal alerts seem to be a common thing (again, I am guessing that you have a Tungsten T5 since you havent verified that). It can be something as simple as a corrupt saved preferences file, or just a part of the OS that has a memory leak and causes the rest of the device to choke. PalmOne is working on a fix, when it will be released, I do not know.

b. Sounds like an issue with palm desktop. I am not familiar with it. Maybe checking with the knowledge base at palmone.com/support would help you in finding out what the issue may be.

elana, during a hotsync do appointments, addresses, etc. travel both ways? Does an appointment made on the Palm show up on the Palm Desktop, and vica versa?

Antoine,

Is PalmOne really working on a T5 fatal error fix??? I read somewhere that they weren't going to worry about T5 memory leak like they did the treo because it has more memory or something like that.

Please say they're going to fix this cause my new T5 crashes about 3 times a day.

Ugh.

As far as I can tell, they are working on it. As to when there would be an update given, I do not know. If I knew something more concrete, I would be able to let you know.

I seriously hope that they fix this issue and also the issue that backup software companies are claiming is a device issue and not an issue with there software as to why they fail to work properly on the T5.

I have now had to hard reset 2 times because fatal alert frequency ended up destroying data or something so that it was in a infinate reset mode due to some memory error during soft reset. This 3rd time around I did a 0 reset hopping that I cure possibly having to hard reset again.

Everybody will have different issues. After some frustrating time I realized that the version of BT Toggle Pro on my T5 was the problem. I checked their website at www.whizoo.com and found they were aware of the problem and have a beta version out for the 650 and T5. It works great. My Botzam Backup now works reliably, hotsyncs work reliably, lockups are practially non-existant--certainly fewer than I had on my T3.

Check out software. It cured my problems and I have more than 300 files loaded on my T5.

I have gone back to using my T3 as I view a reliable SD backup of my data an essential issue. The T5 is just not reliable enough with the "memory leaks" and lack of 3rd party backup software. I have already invested in Backupman and will not shell out more for palmOne's backup solution. Its silly when surfing and Blazer gives you "out of memory" errors or Versamail complains there's not enough memory to sort the email. ALl this when you have somehting like 20MB free!!
The NVFS badly needs fixing, and until palmOne issues a patcg for the T5 like they did for the Treo650 recently, I am sadly staying away from my T5. I have swopped with my better half and I think it suis her cos the T5 makes a better ebook reader :) and for me the T3 is just faster and more reliable.

This is so frustrating. I have a classic love-hate relationship with my T5.

Add the earphone static on top of the crashes, and I'm about to sell it on eBay.

Check out what software? What is it that cured your problems? I only have about 1/2 the memory full on my T5 and I have no idea how to find out how many files that is. On top of that backup software will generate the same error even if its the only 3rd party app on my T5.
