Ok ok, so i caved last night when i saw my cousin's husbands PSP at easter dinner, and i bought one today...
Man this thing is sexyfull! :p
The 'UMD' poping was already fixed at US launch, and its battery is actually not so bad at all...
If anyone has any questions just ask (even for pics :P)
P.S. I just exchanged my MS Pro 1GB for a MS Duo 1GB :P :D

Hi iDean, I heard from a friend who is selling PSP in his mobile shop that PSP uses a different "kind" of MS, is it true? So the MS Duo 1GB u using now, is it a special MS for PSP or the normal MS Pro Duo? :)
My friend told me PSP itself isn't that expensive. It's the games that are expensive. At the moment, there is only 2 on sales in his shop. Imagine that?
If only it runs also on Palm OS, then we can play Palm games on it too. :p
iDean
03-28-2005, 09:43 PM
no it runs on regular MS Duos, BUT the one it comes with in the value pack (32MB) Does say PSP on it, so i can see how he could make that mistake....
well, i paid $500 for the PSP Value pack (included Spiderman 2 the movie on UMD, Wayne Gretzki hockey game UMD, a Demo UMD, Head phone and a remote, a 32MB Sony MS duo, a PSP, a soft cloth, and of course a charger.)
and I bought Twisted metal: Head On AND the warrenty....so all that for $500.23 is pretty good i think.... P.S. thats Canadian Dollars...
Also the games are $50 Here in Canada
Hehehe who knows mabe someone will maybe a palm emulator, since games CAN be run off the MS duo... :D
fssia
03-28-2005, 10:24 PM
Oic. I will inform my friend abt that mistake. He'll misinform his clients if I don't correct him asap. ;)
$500.23 for PSP value pack + Twisted Metal: Head on & extended warranty? That's a good price. Is Twisted Metal: Head On a game?
Yeah I think the price of the games is abt the same. Our currency is in par with S'pore Dollars. His point is not many ppl would fork out > SG$100 for a game. Well, ppl here are still pretty spoilt cuz it's very easy & cheap to get pirated VCDs, DVDs, softwares and so on. :p
If it can also runs Palm OS games, then we'll see more ppl getting themselves the PSP. At least we will see some serious gamers in the Palm OS world getting it. Btw, wouldn't that affect Tapwave Zodiac's market? ;)

that would be cool, too bad this site doesn't incorporate sony phones or the psp as a major topic, thats what i would be into, if only the psp had bluetooth, i could take pictures with my phone and put them on my psp and then have them there, it would be awesome, but, it doesn't (stupid FCC)

excellent choice EB games, thats where i wanted to reserve mine at but i didn't, i think i need to get twisted metal head on cause that seems to be the popular game right now (unfortunatly this 19 year old poor college student used all the money in his bank account and maxed out his one credit card just to get the psp and accessories) so it looks like i'll have to wait till i get a TINY bit more money, which should be coming soon......i don't know from where, but........"DONATIONS, DONATIONS FOR THE GHETTO ORIN PLAY PSP FOUNDATION!!"

ok, have you played twisted metal head on? i played twisted metal on ps1 and i didn't like it much, but the only time i see the psp, i see twisted metal on it, i guess the advertizements are just acting like everyone loves it, but I LOVE GRAND TOURISMO, so............i'll be waiting for that, the only reason i haven't played the GT series much is cause i'm loyal to xbox because playstation was like the odd child of sony, no compatibility with any of the other products, but now that its in the memory sticks, i'm sold
i bought my psp from the evil walmart, cause it was 249.83 as apposed to 249.99 my parents said i should save money..........i saved 17 cents right there!!!!

Sometimes I feel that these games console manufacturers are evil. I mean their target market is usually students and yet their game machine & games are so $$$! It's similar to drug pushing in a sense. The consumers get addicted and want more and spend $$$ on something that didn't cost a lot to make. :p

I love Twisted Metal, and I will definitely buy the PSP game once I get my hands on one. What planet did you come from, how could you not like blowing up cars using guns and missles and bombs?
I guess waiting till GT Mobile comes out is a good idea, but christ on a cracker I am soooooo tempted. I want to get a protection plan with my PSP anyways, the way I keep hearing dead pixels are popping up everywhere. That's why I'll probably go to EBGames. I'm just thinkin' of grabbing one right now because I have a plane ride back to San Diego Sunday, and instead of reading my crappy world history book I could be playing Metal Gear Ac!d.

Just play the dam game and you'll see where I'm coming from. It was blah on the PS1 and it's no better on the on the PSP. One word comes to mind; LAME!!! Oh and also Vomit!!! The game is not worth the UMD disc it's sold on.
Stick with GT, that game rocks.
Sony renounced their dead pixel policy. So they'll exchange PSPs now. But I would just go through the store, since Sony's tech-support is by far the worst I've had to deal with. They honestly expect someon who just bought a PSP, to then turn around and send it to Sony for an exchange. That's also LAME, just like Twisted Metal.

Oh, you don't need to tell me to play it, I've played all 4 on the PS1 and loved every single one. It is an awesome game, and I believe it's a good launch title for the PSP, even though there are probably better launch titles to buy (ridge racer, Wipeout, Untold Legends, MGA come to mind), it's still a game I plan on buying. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.
I drove to three places, all of which were closed to get out my PSP temptations. I basically played a trick on my mind thinking OH LET ME GO PICKUP A PSP when almost all the stores were closed (Bestbuy wasn't, but didn't have any).

Hiya there fellow PSP owners ^_^/. Just coming here to vent about stuff I see on some other forums and review pages bout the PSP. Thing is they all knock it off as it trying to be a "Movie player" that is trying to take over the way we watch movies!. Gahhh, don't they understand that this is a gaming machine first, and does a purty darn good job at it too!. Dynasty Warriors, Darkstalkers, GREAT Games, which I'm surprised for Launch Titles. Anyway, this is a gaming machine, sure, it can also play movies, sure they come in UMD format, just because it does that, does NOT mean you have to buy them! They are available to people who would like to watch movies on the go without lugging around a 'portable' dvd player or laptop. I for one am happy that they give us the options of watching movies on our nice handheld unit. Which leads to...
"Proprietary" format.....Geez lueez people! Come on, this is a gaming device, I don't hear much people talking bout nintendo 'cartride' format crap. I think people wouldn't complain so much if sony only released the PSP as a GAME device only and them showing the UMD Disk as only a game disk, but nooo, it has to be an all in one disk and therefore "sony trying to rule them all" deal. Do I like the UMD format, oh yeah! With graphics as beatiful as Dynasty Warrior and sound as well, I'm loving it, would I love it more if they used DVD's...nah, that is just too big, couldn't call it portable them, so sony should have used Cartridges..., yeah if we wanted to stay 2D. DS has some fun games, but just doesn't look as good as PSP. I am happy Sony went the way of the UMD, something small but with decent storage space. Ahh well, think I'm done venting, time to get my a** kicked in Darkstalkers. x_x

Plus my samurai champloo dvd box set just came in and i will be converting a couple eps before the psp gets here, load em up, and watch!
Oh, and Twisted Metal isnt thaty bad, although the controls are hard to get used too, but if more people by me would have psp's, then we could play online. I heard online is what you should get it for. But im gettin wipeout pure:) that is going to be amazing!

My impressions as of 2 days into my little gem.
First of all, WOW. I fired the thing up and my jaw dropped. Holy. Cow. The screen is amazing, it is vivid and really bright, making for an awesome display. I have no dead or stuck pixels, just the tiniest little bit of dust under the screen that's off in the corner. Some things I am noticing through almost 48 hours of usage
-Anyone who buys one should buy a screen protector along with it. Today I ordered the Martian Field's protector, which is supposed to be one of the best (beyond another one that escapes my memory at the moment) Apparently the Pelican protector makes the screen look grainy, unlike the one I ordered which is supposed to be excellent. Also, DO NOT USE YOUR FLUFFY COTTON SHIRT TO WIPE OFF THE SCREEN. Scratching will occur. I just read a post on another forum where the guy did such a thing, and had to get some wax to see if he could get them out. Just don't. Use the microfiber.
-My thumbs hurt. I guess it's just bad ergonomics? I played plenty wipeout the day I got it and my thumbs were sore. After going out and buying Metal Gear Ac!d and Lumines, I played about ~40 minutes of PSP play starting with MGA and then Lumines and my thumbs started hurting a lot. I could have weak thumbs, I'm not a hard core gamer by any means, so maybe I just need some getting used to?
-As if it needs to be said, the headphones are utter crap. I plugged them into the remote only to touch the plastic around the connection jack while inserted only to have it unleash hell on my ears in terms of static. I promptly switched over to my iPod earbuds.
-Battery life seems to be fine. I did my 40 minutes of play on top of watching some spiderman, then loading a few pics and mp3s on top of trying to configure the wifi access to my home network to show I had a 79% charge showing, ~5 hours of life still. This was using the middle brightness setting on the screen.
-I can't get the damn thing to connect to my network. I believe it's because of 128bit WEP running on my network; The PSP can't seem to resolve anything when it comes to trying. I am personally not worried, I'm going back to my dorms Sunday night where I will setup my wireless router again and have it all worked out. Then I'll be able to fool Wipeout into giving me browsing capability! yay!
That's all I can think of now, I'll let you guys know how my networking woes go as soon as I get access to my router tomorrow night.

To all PSP owners:
My BF's nephew is a gamer and is doing his research now into getting a PSP, DS or wait for PS3. He has read about dead pixels on PSP. I read somewhere that Sony has denounced these dead pixels and would exchange these units with new ones. But the boy read that some guy has dead pixel on the side of the screen on his 1st PSP. He exchanged it for a new unit & now the dead pixels are in the centre of the screen!!!
JackAxe
04-03-2005, 11:58 PM
Sony will now exchange PSPs, but you'll need to send it to them. Stick with the store. Out of 4 peeps I know of that got a PSP, only one got a dead pixel. But most of them got dust under the screen.
My DS is fine, but my friends has a slightly off pixel on his.

<]=)Hi JackAxe, what do you mean by stick with the store?
Dust under the screen? That means that only 1 thing to me: very bad quality control! They need to assemble these parts in clean room conditions, so that no dust will be trapped inside.
JackAxe

I just mean return/exchange it to the store of purchase. :)
It would be silly in my book to send a brand new purchase off to Sony to fix something that shouldn't be an issue in the first place and this is what they would like us to do. That's lame. The only reason they're even doing that, is because of the dead-pixel problem that has plagued so many.
It seems like they were rushing to fill the orders. I guess this is what they get for cutting cost by lowering the screen quality.
The only Nintendo device I have with dust under the screen, is the one that I installed an Afterburner kit on, so it was me that dirtied it. :D

Well, if you want to be technical...
Wipeout so far takes the cake for best game I have, with Lumines and MGA tied for second. At first, Wipeout was really hard to control and I thought that I would have a crappy time trying to play, but using different ships and getting practice with the nub has helped out a ton, I can now confidently go through races and win a good deal.
Also, anyone that's interested in the latest news on the PSP and what not should visit PSP Vault. I didn't check out the forums, but they have up to date info on the PSP's upcoming goodies, including the preview of the browser that is soon to be released with the PSP in Korea.

is sooo much better now! Today for example I was driving home from work and at the train tracks there was this train that was just completly still. Usually in these kind of situations I would just wait a bit to see if it moves, get angry that its not moving, wait some more because knowing my luck the minute I turn it would start moving, then just give up and start going another way, but with the PSP, that is no more ^_^. Now I was happy to see that train just sitting there on the tracks blocking my way home, it gave me time to pull out my PSP, power that baby on and start playing Metal Gear Acid. I am sooo hooked on this game, I love strategy games and this is just eating up whatever free time I have. *besides now of course, but bout to go play ^_^*. I was lil hesitant bout the card based action so I rented it from Blockbuster to see if it was really good. *I am metal gear fan so I just HAD to try it* Rented it, and now will buy it. 5 Hours into the game and I'm still in the office, working to get more points to buy more cards heheh. The PSP has very little chance of ever getting any Palm OS games- Whereas the DS have a good chance. The PSP is missing the Touchscreen that a lot of games use, and the DS has supposedly aquired the Palm OS license already. (V-Pocket) If you dont know what that is, its because no one really does. But i am almost 100% sure that we will see what it is at E3, which is really close.

Some Palm games such as Mazera can be played with 4-ways buttons. Well, I won't play with the buttons on the Palm but with PSP, it's a different story. ;)
But since Sony is no more a Palm licensee, so chance of seeing Palm games on PSP is indeed pretty slim. Yet, if PPC can play Palm games with the use of a software called StyleTap, then anything is possible, right? I mean even if Sony wouldn't do it, doesn't mean some genius out there won't do it. :p
But then again, no touch screen would be a problem for games like Plant Tycoon, Fish Tycoon, Tradewinds & Village Sim. Sigh...

I see what you mean... It'd be nice to have one big consolidated device...

Hiya there. People shouldn't worry to much bout dead pixels because I had 2 and didn't mind it because couldn't see it too much, but now after a while, I see that the dead pixels are gone. Feels good to have a nice screen again ^_^, just in time to watch "Hero". "House of Flying Daggers" and now "Hero",plus 'Mercury' oh man, I'm in heaven now :p

Thats ok, most of the posters are un-informed teenagers anyway...

I got mine last week. :D
512MB stick and TW Golf.
(Cases and other such bric a brac are surely to follow.) :D
A buddy at work has fully implemented the new homebrew stuff on his, so I'll be heading over to his place soon for some tips on settting it all up.
We need some more titles.

Just got NBA Street Showdown yesterday, adding to my collection of games. It is so much friggin fun. In the reviews they say the actions have a delayed effect after you push the button, but that isn't true. I'm loving every minute of it. And hey, finals are over for me yay!!!!

The only thing that really bothers me is that when I go to my local Best (Worst?) Buy, I find there are more movies than games! Then I go over to EB Games and the same thing! I know that Sony is trying to make this "The only multimedia device you'll ever need!" Or whatever their marketing strategy is, but, come on- most of us bought this thing for the games!

easier to convert movies that is already made than it is to make new games :). There are some good games that does take up the time while waiting for other killer games. IE: Metal Gear Acid, Darkstarlkers, Mercury etc.

Haha yeh, I went to my local Best Buy today and saw three rows of games, and 5 rows of movies. I really wish movies were all 15 bucks and lower, and all games were at the most 40 bucks. Ok, back to the real world!:)

All you PSP owners do is complain. Learn to appreciate the games you have, like Rengoku. :)

I'm still lovin' Tiger Woods PGA Tour.
And My PSP is the machine of choice for media now.
(of course I'm still playing "Minish Cap" on my GBA as well!)

Sure, Tiger looks better on a PSP, but you don't have the magical controls of a styluls. :p
When someone hacks a PSP so that it will play video full screen with H.264 from the Mem stick, I won't be able to resist anymore. My friend is selling his, so I could just buy it. But I can't play it on a plane. :p

Ok, I bought a couple cool things over the weekend while with my girlfriend who flew up for the weekend. Which is why I haven't been posting. Cause, well, even though this is going to break a few members' hearts (coughjackaxecough), women win over 1src forums. BUT ON WITH IT!
Got the logitech case. Freakin' awesome. Going to make a sweet insert for it as soon as I install my dad's new dell color laser printer drives. Cutting it out will be a pain though. I really like this case so far. It's hard cased, has pretty good rubber inserts, and looks like it could really take a decent fall and be ok. Not going to find out the hard way though. ALSO, what's even better is that the case lets me hold on to something a bit bigger, making the ergonomics a lot better for me (cause I have big hands). Anyway, I suggest you guys look into it, 20 bucks at either EBGames or Bestbuy (where I got mine).
Also, I bought Mercury. Wow, this game looks really REALLY good on the screen. The liquid 'blobs' look really cool when you navigate it, not to mention the controls are sweet. They say this game is addicting, and even though I haven't had time to go in depth with it, I went through the tutorial mode and I found out why. All sorts of possibilities in levels! Anyways, so far it's well worth the 40 bucks that my friend gave me for my birthday. Oh yea, my birthday was last week.

Be prepared. The level of difficulty JUMPS up when you get out of tutorial...not that it is a bad thing, its great to be challenged heheh. ^_^.
