hi all,
(i wish i didn't have to say this but yes i have searched "best backup" in hopes of finding some solution)
yesterday i suffered a fatal hard crash, and despite having a week old MS Backup and daily BackupMan backups, i couldn't restore it.
MS Backup had no problems (i really wish i could schedule it) but it was a week old. no combination of full restores from BackupMan or MS Backup then BackupMan could save my NX70V. it got even worse when i attempted to hotsync.
BackupMan failed on (what i think are) the 2 updated video codecs, FATFS, and some WL100 drivers.
which brings me to my question: does anyone use a reliable (ie: i can hard reset and restore perfectly) backup solution that takes into account the hacked drivers and updates of an NX60/NX70V? everyone's situation is a little different, so i'm looking for someone in a similar one.
thanks in advance!
I use BackupMan, and yes I have noticed that a few files don't get restored, namely some system files. So I jotted down the files which were not restored, and I keep a copy of these files on my MS, and then just move them over as the last step when I restore my Clie. Its a small inconvenience, but its worked so far for me.

Are you talking hotsync backup or card backup? I use an automated program that does a nightly backup to the memory stick, called CardBackup (www.jkware.com). I have it set up to create a nightly backup at 3:00 am and also on Fridays a backup that is preserved for the entire week, in case whatever corruption problem I have might have occurred the previous day. I've had to restore more than once and it is a life saver.
I don't use anything other than the hotsync for backing up to the computer.
By the way, I have an NX80 now, but I did have an NX60 and it restored fine on it as well, including the updates.
A word of caution that you might already know; if you are using an MSPro in an NX60/NX70, you need to keep a non-Pro MS handy that has the backup program and updates on it just in case of such a crash.

I use both CardBackup and BackupMan. Both saved my bacon a few times!!
Seriously, I've found both work well - but at times I've found that either program can have a file or two that doesn't restore well to the handheld after a hard reset.
I use SyncAll to backup all files during the HotSync - but I NEVER use that to restore my NX70. It's just for 'extra insurance'.

basically i found that those 4 files that BackupMan wouldn't restore ended up messing up my Clie so bad that it went into a cycle of hard resets after i restored and then hotsync'd!
i will look into CardBackup. does it support the CF or MS (ie: can i select the MS? BackupMan enjoys putting its backup on either the CF or MS, and i can never remember to remove and re-insert the MS first).

As far as I know, CardBackup technically only supports one card, though it doesn't care which kind. I never remove the Memory Stick (except temporarily when I need a different stick in there for a short time) so it always writes there. I haven't found a way to make it write to the Compact Flash card but don't want to any way.
On my NX60, I believe it really depends on which CF driver you are using. I used CF Magic, which has a program-by-program selection screen to define which card you want a given program to use. I was able to get CardBackup to use either card with that. But I don't know how the Pelaca or Athena drivers work in that respect.
I can say that I had to hard reset my NX60 and NX80 on more than one occasion thanks to errant programs and CardBackup has never failed to restore the machine to a clean useful state.
