I bought a sealed new BP500 battery from the grey market, ie parallel imported from Japan to Hong Kong. After I put it into my NZ, the details show 58% full and charge cycle = 2.
Sony should have controlled the quality and indicate to customers that the maximum charge cycle in a "new" BP500 battery.
Any comments?

suppose to be no battery life at all. This battery may be used before by somebody or just test it out from display set...

Yes, the smart battery appears to have some major issues. From what I understand, it is possible to reset the number of cycles.

The battery is sealed within a typical SONY plastic case. For those who buy directly from Sony Shop, my advise is to test the "new battery" with your NZ and ask for a replacement if the Charge Cycle is larger than 1. Well, if you are really demanding, then accepting only BP500 with charge cycle equals zero.

I don't know how the spare batteries come... but it seems most who have purchased the NZ ... and charge it for the first time, show cycles at 2 (one would think it would be 1). I'm sure Sony puts a zap-charge on it to begin with and it ends up showing 2 cycles from the get-go. I'm not sure about the spare batteries... but to me... one battery is the same as the other. I would assume to some degree they all come off of the same line. Some are put in NZs and some are packaged for spare batteries.
I would think there would be at least 1 cycle on each battery.... from a Quality Control... Ensuring the Battery can charge (technically working). That is why I think they probably put some kind of charge on it just as a quick test.

i really would like a spare battery, but it doesn't seem to be availiable in the UK yet. And as usual sony or amazon won't ship this product outside the country... any more suggestions where I could get it from?

To peterh: I suppose Sony will distribute more battery later internationally. The first batch was sold out from Sony Shop Hong Kong so quickly. Instead of waiting for couple of weeks, I bought it from a parallel importer yesterday.
