View Full Version : Video on PSP.
To get video on the PSP sony offers Image Converter 2. The only problem is that Sony is selling it for $20.00. Does anyone have an alternative solution. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Look for the Japanese version on VZ forum. Cliepet did review on the VZ, and Lmame posted files for Image Converter 2. There is an altered language file that gives the converter interface enough english to understand how to use it. You may have to tweak the reg files to get the correct outptu, but all of the info is here.

You actually don't have to tweak anything. The PSP video player is just as limited as the original Clie player... The damn thing won't play anything higher than 768kbps and 320x240..... Sony's way of guarding UMD movies' profitability.

Thanks. I downloaded it and will try it out. I will report my experiences.

You know that sounds like something that someone needs to hack. If the UMD videos are MP4s, then the codec for fullscreen is already in the device, it just needs to be accessed, or the other codec could be bypassed, depending on how it is blocked. It may not be sony trying to be mean, because the most used resolution after QVGA is HVGA, which the PSP could never do if they wanted it to. Maybe a custom player would fix the problem.

UMDs are H.264. :) Typical Sony. I love their design and hate their intentional limitations.

The Pspvideo9 is free and I have not yet installed the videora, but the pspvideo9 is very easy to send movies from your computer to the Psp. :p

I just wanted to say that I was wrong about it being locked at 768kbps.. it plays 1500kbps video, it's just that it doesn't play videos with any bitrate in between 768 and 1500. It looks magnificent, btw.
So that put PSP is a much higher light for me personally... but I still think it's too thick. That keeps me from buying one. And the battery, of course, and pixel refresh.
