Last week my boss was getting rid of 2 older Palm III's, a IIIxe and a IIIe, so I was able to take them home and play with them.

I have been having a ton of fun finding out what programs are compatable and how I can use them constructively.
After upgrading the os to 3.5.3 I installed a few apps.
I've got ZLauncher 5.11 running just fine on it.
Agendus, SplashID, eReader Pro and a few ebooks, Ultrasoft Money, TealLock Corp, and a few others.

Agendus is quite slow, but it does it's job consistantly.
I even sinc my Microsoft Money 2005 data to it without a problem. The reports don't look that great, but everything works great. I havn't had one crash since I brought them home.

The IIIxe has 8Meg of memory and is quite slow, but it's a thrill getting to know these machines again.

Hi,
speed them up using QuickBits and FastCPU!

I've been playing with ZLauncher background images, and I was able to get my favorite super hero to display correctly.
Isn't she a beauty?

My boss is right now picking herself up off the floor laughing from the geekness coming out of me. :)

The III is great fun ;)

You can also use OmniRemote, iSilo and even JackFlash with it :D

Hi,
is she a geek herself? If yes, what about having a little geek chat at work?(Envies you)

No, she's not a geek.

The 3 woman I work with all poke fun at the geekness pouring out of my office. I enjoy it. I also enjoy poking fun at them. ;)

I loved the form factor of my IIIc. I still have it, should dig it up and see if it still works.

The IIIc is a color device, with a rechargable battery I believe.
Nice not having to replace AAA batteries.

My fav. oldsk00l Palm is probably the original III, with maybe the Vx in second place :)

The IIIc is kinda cool, being (I think) the first colour one, but when you get to that stage the Visor Prism was the dog's proverbials ;)

The IIIxe that my boss gave me is up and running like a champ, but the IIIe that came with it won't turn on.

When I put the batteries in her, it just hums a fairly high pitch monotone. Not very loud. Poor guy!

I imagine others have experienced this.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
checked the contrast pot??? Any button forced in(hanging??)? Memory card sits firm(if he has one)?

Everything looks normal. I even hit the reset button a few times.
What a weird sound comming out of it. I have to hurry up and take the batteries out of it before it blows up!

Well-open it up and cherck if the screen cable is o.k.
This was a flaw that one saw with most of the early Palm Pilots and III's-the stylus damaged the screen cable because it rubbed it every time the stylus was removed from or inserted into the silo.

Here I go!
