Hi,
is it possible to set the SJ33 mp3 player to go off with a song in the morning as a wake up call, instead of a regular beep beep beep alarm...?

I can't think of a way or a reason to try this. The MP3 player is designed to use the headphone jack, not the speaker. Secondly, you'd need to basically start an application at a set time. Perhaps there's a hack out there to do this, but I haven't heard of one.
Hear's an idea that may work better than the standard PDA sounds: GeekSounds. It's a series or sounds that you can use instead of the Sony supplied ones. So with this freeware program, you can wakeup to Airwolf, the Flintstones, or Dallas (just to name a few). Here's a link to it at PalmGear:

As for speaker vs. headphone jack, I was thinking of plugging from the headphone jack to my hifi system (in the same way i plug my minidisc to the same hifi). So maybe if I can find a hack to start an application this would be possible.
Secondly, I can't remember if I read it regarding the SJ33 (or if it was concerning a cell phone) but is it possible to 'record' pieces of music from a mp3 and make a PDA sound out of it?

It appears that the author of GeekSounds can convert .wav or .mid files to make the sounds. So if one can convert a MP3 to one of those formats, it's possible. But I'm not sure how you'd get the conversion done. Probably for some $ he'd do it, but otherwise I can't see why he'd do that for all the requests he'd get?
