View Full Version : Thinking of buying a Zodiac 2 but....

Hello all,

I am really tempted in buying a Zodiac 2, especially now that I can buy it for £150, which is almost £100 less than the price in the past. This price reduction makes me though a bit nervous. Is a new model coming out?

Also, soon I am moving to Greece and asked Tapwave if I am going to have technical support. The answer I received was the following:

"However, if we determine any issue after thorough troubleshooting and if your device needs to be replaced then you have to ship it back to Tapwave UK or US repair facility and we can only ship to UK or US based shipping addresses."

Checking the Tapwave site, technical support is available in United States, UK and Singapore. So what happens if someone lives in a different country? It sounds very strange that they cannot ship it to other countries except US and UK.

Thanks in advance

But mostly you should have no problem on device, must sure you test it thoroughly before you purchase.

Hello keelinlee,

I don't think that there are a lot of chances to have a major problem after the first month, during which I can have it exchanged for a new one in UK. It is though the feeling of having lack of support when being in Greece that bothers me. I understand that they cannot have technical centres in all countries, but not being able to post it to Greece? Why is this so difficult....?

My guess is that Tapwave is still a small company w/o the manpower and resources of big ones like M$, Dell, and Sony. They gotta cut costs where they can. I remember (and i think it's still true) that Tapwave can't accept anything but US credit cards before they started selling zods to certain European countries.

Last I heard, the zod3 is slated to come out sometime in '06, but with the usual delays in the industry, it may be as late as '07. No clue on what the specs would be. If ya want a zod, i'd say go for it.... unless u want it even chepaer, then check back in a few more months. Try to pick up some SD card zod exclusive/tuned games if u can, as they tend to be cheaper. Games like Duke Nukem Mobile, Doom2, and Spy Hunter don't really have alot of replay value, so u wouldn't need to worry about lugging around those SD cards for long.

Honestly, I can't say you will experience any problems. I have had a few minor hiccups with mine, but they were attributable to third party software that I have since removed. My Zodiac is an excellent PDA with great battery life, and serves me well. Even with its "parlor" type games installed (like Zap!, Bejeweled, Acid Solitaire, etc.) I play games on it more often then I do my PSP, console systems or the PC. Usually because I have it with me more often then I do the other devices.

As for lugging around SD cards, I usually have both SD slots on my Zodiac in use. I almost always have my 1GB SD card with music on it installed, as well as my 256MB card with books, family photos and that. I plan on getting a couple of 2GB SD cards, so I can have more of my music collection with me when I go places. I wish there were affordable 5GB SD cards, but they will eventually come out.

I think one of these also ship to UK. For $265 that's roughly 144 LBs for a zod2 and 110LBs for a zod1, i'd say it's pretty close

There's no new models coming out so you don't need to worry about that. But don't expect support for a long time. To be honest, you'll probably get better help from other users at sites like this.
