you can find Palm OS Emulator and images (not skins) at palmone web site (http://www.palmos.com/dev/tools/emulator/) (donno about the ux, clie developers site was closed by sony)
to back up you rom you can use jbbackup (http://www.brayder.com/products/) , though youll need to go underground to find it.
actually, i find the simulators enough for my needs.

POSE does not exist for the UX. What you want is the official UX simulator. I googled a link for it and got this - http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Clie-dev/file/CLIE_PalmSim_landscape.zip
If the link doesn't work just check around for UX simulator, or clie simulator. And for those who don't know what POSE or the simulator do, it allows you to run the palmOS in a screen on your PC so you can test software, etc.

I just don't get the purpose behind it...it'll act like a pda, on your desktop? But won't palm software act differently on the UX50 then on the PC? I'm confused...

Put it this way, if you see some new fang dangal software that you want to try but don't want to risk crashing your PDA and loosing everything (and it does happen), then this is how you test it.
You don't simulate your entire PDA (although you can, Sync and all if you want to), you just "test" different programs.
And using the simulator stops those unwanted misc files that appear on your PDA after you remove software.
Your right some times apps run a little different but all in all, most work as they should.
(The other good use is using the simulator with "special" apps we're not allowed to talk about) ;)

POSE (emulator) is not a simulator.
to make it clear, simulator is a demonstration of palm, over your pc. it won't run all programs (graphics, video, audio)and sometimes act diffrently from your actual device.
emulator is the same exact unit you have, over the pc. it uses your rom image, to make it identicle to your palm, and can run whatever your palm can run.
