View Full Version : Why the NX80 has such a long IR window

After taking apart my NX80, turns out that there are 3 IR leds. Don't know whether all are LEDS or some might be a sensor. My guess would be the yellow one is the led, while the dark ones are the sensors. Any one knows for sure?

Normally only two sensors are used for IR. By the pic, I can't tell for sure what the yellow one you are talking about does...

I think one is the infrared receiver, one is the infrared transmitter and one is the consumer IR (remote control) transmitter LED.

Can you post some more pictures of the NX80 internals, in particular the circuit boards (both sides)?

Sorry. Unless I have to take it out, don't think I will be taking it further apart. There are some more pics at http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83329. The most complicated part of opening the nx80, turns to be the screws. If you press with the screwdriver hard enough against the screw, you should be able to remove them with little damage.

I did try watching for activity of the leds (through my camera) and the large clear led lights with the remote control functions. However, I was unable to detect any activity through the other two (could be a different frequency) either with the remote control or beaming a file.

Interesting observation. Maybe Sony included an IR for remote control purposes, so the Clié Remote Control (RMC) app could be useful at real life distance from appliances.

I remember the booklet that came with it said that the one facing up(is that the yellow one you ment?) is for the remote control.
So I would guess that the 2 facing to the side is for IR data transfers.

bingo.

that is what it is exactly for. the yellow one is used for the enhanced IrDA
and the other 2 are used for the PDA data transfer. one to send the other to receive.
you must know that even though the enhanced IrDA has a great distance reach it can only be used to send, not receive.
the regular ones have a poor distance compared to other PDA. (talking about first hand experiences)
