Hi all,

I finally got my NX all fixed up, and I'm looking at using it as a GPS during my long car rides. I've been checking eBay for various solutions to:

a) Mount the unit in the car
b) Charge the unit while I'm driving
c) Connect a GPS receiver for GPS positioning

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this kind of thing? I've checked the auctions, and came across several instances of this one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3730&item=5176773404&rd=1) that's a combined car mount, charger, and GPS receiver.

Anyone bought from this guy?

I want to know what I'm doing before I go spending $150 on a kit that might be completely bogus & useless. Then again, from a previous thread (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79964&highlight=car) , I noticed that someone was actually using something similar, so I wonder if I could get a review of the functionality of the kit.

How's the car mount? I notice that you have to choose between the suction-cup mount, or the mount that clips to the air-vent. Any suggestions?

How about the charger? How does it work? Does it charge the GPS & clie separately or together? Any good?

What about the GPS receiver? How does it connect to the NX, and how is the signal it receives? Any problems?

Any suggestions would be more than welcome...

Thanks!

I recommend the Holux GPS GR 231 (works as GPS mouse and bluetooth)
You need to purchase extra PS2 cable supporting clie NX for £14 - which I'm currently using.
Since it's wired and wireless GPS, that means that if i changed my PDA, still able to use the GPS unit.
Signal is excellence, picked up satellite signal within 15seconds in good weather.

Last one I saw on ebay was:

The Holux receiver looks good, but like you said I need to pick up an extra cable for it since my NX doesn't have built-in bluetooth.

I'm still wondering about the mount/powersupply/GPS receiver in that original ebay ad though... they might be enough to get the job done, but I need to know if anyone has any experience with them. Even if I got the Holux, I'd still need to mount & power them in the car.

I bought one of those blue gps mouse units from that guy, UKTEC I think it was the mount that came withit was far beeter than the seidio mount I bought previously, this one leaves the memory stick clear and doesn't pop it out when you release the spring grips. the links here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3730&item=5177076451&rd=1) I run Mapsonic and with the mouse it works great, I am also using it in landscape mode on my NX73v, in my car when I'm not using the sat nav I use pocket tunes as an in car mp3 player. here are some pics.

Thanks ir803!

A couple of questions:

1) How effective is the suction-cup mount? Does it come loose at all? Does it have to be affixed to the windshield, or can it be used on a car dashboard as well? Would you recommend the air-vent mount instead?

2) How does the charger connect to the clie & the receiver? Does it connect to both the GPS receiver & clie at the same time?

Thanks!

Here's another choice for an economical NX GPS solution.

Well, I ordered the GPS receiver, mount, and charger off ebay yesterday, and expect it to arrive within the next week or so. I paid just over $150 Canadian for it, so I'm hoping that I don't regret the purchase. :)

I'll review the product once I get it and let you all know what I think.

Howcome your NX73's status bar looks like the Garnet series os bar? Was it a skin change? (looks so nice)
