I have a audio book downloaded to my laptop. It plays fine in Windows media player. However it wont play on my TH55. I get the following message:
"This track is unavailable for one of the following reasons:
The card is write-protected or does not support copyright control, ro the track is corrupted."
Any idea what is going on?
Thanks,
Mike

There's a flag in the mp3 file with copyright control, so the mp3 player included in the TH-55 doesn't play it. I used mp3 flag to remove it, and in the end I used Aeroplayer.

Could also be that the mp3 is VBR. TH55 audio player needs
constant bit rate mp3s.

I believe that is the problem I've experienced. Is there a way to convert variable bit rate MP3 files to constant bit rate?

The ONLY type of MP3's you can play on the TH55 are CBR 44.1kHz ones.
The CBR and 44.1kHz sample rate are both very important, because if a file isn't specced to that it will give a confusing error about it being copy-protected or corrupt.
A number of products will resample or convert your MP3's. MusicMatch will do it and it's free. You simply go to File/Convert, select the file and the parameters and it does it quite simply. I know there are other products that do it too. You could search for them here as early on that was quite an area of discussion.

pocket tunes (http://www.pocket-tunes.com/) plays vbr mp3 files.
because it uses cpu power instead of the dsp chip, it consumes battery faster then audio player, and slow down the unit when plays in background.

I use Audacity to do most of my audio processing. It's open-sourced and works great.

Coming from N760C, I had RealJukeBox in its installation CD that covert to 44.1kHz and 92 kbps.

OK, this is wierd. I have one audio book that will play some of the files and not others.
Any idea what might be going on with that?

I wonder if the free versions of Musicmatch or audacity will load me with spywear.

I use http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm Its fast & easy. I usually convert my 128bit vbr's to 64bit cbr. Quality is good/size of mp3 is even better. Theres my 2 cents.

That wwas a very vague question. Perhaps a little more information might help.

Audacity coming straight from SourceForge is absolutely clean. That's one reason why I like it: no hidden junk. If you're real paranoid, compile it yourself. Heck, you can examine the source to see what's up.

There is one particular mp3 I have problem playing. I can play it on Aeroplayer or pTunes. Sample rate may be the reason cuz I've already converted it to CBR and set it at 96 kbits and yet it couldn't played on Audio Player.
Will try to sample it at 44.1 kHz now. Thanx for the info! ;)

With DMC, click on advanced options, under there they have: constant, average, & variable bitrates. :)
