Anyone with Linksys Router

Will someone please assist me in opening ports. Mashoutposse told me to open certain ports (for wireless hotsync from OUTSIDE of your own network).


Will someone please tell me all I need to know about port forwarding and how to do it on my Linksys wireless router.

If you know what ports it needs open i can guide you through the proccess.

you could always get a network sniffer (do a search on download.cnet.com for "network port sniffer") and watch which ports the software is listening on...

then you go into your router config and fwd those ports to whichever computer you want... the other option, if you dont have good reason not to, and your router supports it is to set your pc to DMZ host. that way its outside the firewall and you shouldnt have any trouble.

linksys has really good support too, so if you identify which ports you want to open you should be able to find router specific instructions on their site, or over the phone.

Never...never use the "DMZ" hosting option. A google search should tell you what ports to open. Opening ports on any Linksys unit is quite simple...GS3CD is right..their suppport is top notch.

us support migt be good, but support in europe is lousy. sample:

question "my router won't connect to the internet"

i was not asked for details but confronted with 5 potential solutions:
1) update firmware
2) reset router
3) exchange router
4) exchange network card in pc (whatfor for christs sake?)
5) exchange cable

i was quite wondering why those guys did not ask me to

6) exchange isp or
7) exchange appartment
