Guys, (and ladies)

I am at my wits end. I have checked and unchecked the "always on in cradle" option, and regardless my NZ always shuts off after 3 minutes which is the max time I can get it to stay awake.

The power is on in the cradle becuase the red light is on charging.

Is there a way to "edit" the max time before powerdown, I would love to have a 10 minutes option. (smile)

If you have the Power-On security set up, then you can't use the Stay On in Cradle option.

And I have seen some utlitys to change the shutdown time to anything you like, but not sure exactly whats apps do this since I don't have any on my Clie. Hopefully someone else knows.

I downloaded a "freeware" utility from Palmgear called "PowerNet" that allows you to set the AutoOff time to however many seconds you want it set too. I have it set to 600 seconds and my NZ90 now stays on for 10 minutes before the AutoOff feature kicks in. This utility also has a setting that will disable the AutoOff feature if your PDA is online.

Click here (http://www.palmgear.com/software/showsoftware.cfm?sid=882E2B97-D58A-40A1-A7FFBEA14A6986EE&prodID=44330) to get it from Palmgear.

Your quite welcome. It is the sharing off information that makes Cliesource an invaluable tool. I have gotten so much from this site and I am always happy to be able to return a little bit of helpfull info to its other members.

If let LCD on it for too long, will it shorter the life of the PDA's LCD?

The LCD panels do have a life rating. I believe it is something like 10,000 hours. So the answer to your question is yes. I guess those extra minutes your screen is left on will add up over time but you also need to look at the issue logically.

I happen to hate my PDA turning off after 3 minutes of inactivity. Three minutes is not long enough. I prefer to have that timeout setting set too 10 minutes. That is an additonal 7 minutes my PDA could be on while it is inactive. I couldn't tell you how often this actually happens (being left on and inactive) but it isn't all the time. Once a day or maybe twice a day at the most. Will I ever hit that 10,000 hours screen life? I doubt it. Ten thousand hours is a long time. Add into the equation how often Sony releases new and cool Clie's that we just have to have and it becomes even less of a chance that the majority of Clie users will hit that 10,000 hour number.

10,000hrs is long enough to change a new PDA. say 8 hrs a day that will let you use 3.4 years!!!

My NZ does the same thing. At times I think it doesn't actually realize it's in the cradle charging. I can actually watch the battery symbol flicker from charging to not charging, then back again, but the unit seems to be charged when all is said and done.

This used to happen with my NR until Sony released a patch that ended up fixing the problem. Maybe they'll do the same for the NZ.

ok one more question here. If put the NZ on cradle, let the NZ on it for 8 hours, does the energy come from the set directly or from the AC - cradle?

I just downloaded a great little freeware DA called AOCtrlDA. I'm using McFling as a DA Launcher. AOCtrl pops up a menu which gives you the following auto off options: Never, 10 seconds, 30 sec., 1 min., 2 min., 3 min., 5 min., 10 min., and 30 min. Very handy.

Both, the AC power supply provides enough juice to charge and power the Clie. In most cases the power is taken from across the battery leads. Similar concept to the alternator/battery setup in a car.
