View Full Version : Replacement Cover?
Anyone know where I can get the Original Smoke plastic cover? I know a lot of guys don't use it but I like it. I found a place that makes various colors of it but I want the original one. If anyone has one that they don't use would you be willing to sell it? Also, for those of you who use a flip case, how much do you find it better. Suprisingly, of all the PDA's I've used I have never gotten a case. I figured I'm always going to get a new one so what's the point in getting a case i won't be able to use in a couple of months. Well, as of now, I think I'm going to be settling down but I won't buy a case until maybe later.

The only place I know of that has them is Sony itself, through their Direct Parts Access site. Not sure of the address, but a Google search should find it. But it is not cheap!
:D
I've already looked there and I can't find anything for any CLIE model.

You can get the official replacement cover here:

Do a search for Part or Accessory Number:

Thankou so much for the info.Although if I'm not mistaken, is the price $55? The different colored replacements were $13. Igues I have to ask. Is anybody willing to sell theirs or is there a cheaper place?

Yeah. They are indeed charging $55.00 for them. Search the forums here for the part number and you'll come up with at least one other thread on this. I can't believe they want $55.00 for a piece of plastic.

Hi I'd like to get a replacement cover but not necessarily the original as it is too expensive $$$$! Where can you get a cover non-OEM that isn't too expensive?
Check out ebay for $20. 3 days to go.

Thanks for the input, however, I bought my TH55 without a cover including the hinge which attaches to the unit and the cover. Can I buy any with the hinge included?
Thanks again for your help.

I will probably end up purchasing a JavoEdge case as it is cheaper to get than the plastic cover. Anyone know if the screen can be scratched or damaged if there's no plastic cover as shown in JavoEdge's website?
That may be why the Sony flip cover costs $55.
Yes, the screen (glass/digitizer) can be easily scratched. That is why there are lots of screen protectors on sale.
I don't have the flip cover nor case on my TH55, but screen protector is definitely a must have. Always carry my TH55 in pants' pocket like that for about a year w/o any problem.

I would also but worry that I my put my Clie inside a pocket with coins and keys! It would drive me nuts if I scratched the screen because of my being absent minded.
I don't put anything else in the pocket. There are other pockets to put coins and keys. I put the Clie glass-side facing my thigh in case my leg bumping into things. It fits nicely in the pocket since it is so slim w/o the flip cover.
It works great. I just pull it out and use it right away. No flipping up the cover.
Another bad thing about the flip cover is rubbings between the flip cover and the Clie frame. The rubbings may lead to scratches between the two surfaces. If the Clie is in your pocket, your leg movements may create the rubbings.
I used to keep the flip cover on in the first month of having it (back in February-March last year). When it was new, you want to keep everything intact. You know the feeling. However, my flip cover got those scratches on the inside tinted face in less than a month. Whenever I flipped up the cover, I could see day lights through those scratches, where the tinted coating got scratched off. This drove me off the wall. That was when I decided to remove the flip cover. Fortunately, there was no scratches on the other side (the frame around the glass/digitizer).
I decided to also remove the tinted film entirely. It is as clear as a glass window now, better looking than the scratched-up tinted one. It is sitting in my drawer for resale some day. Soon afterwards hinge plugs were available to cover the holes. Was I glad to have them.
The plugs in the picture above (post # 14) are the first available ones here in Global Source (http://www.glblsrc.com/shop/search.php?mode=search). They were made of semi translucent hard plastic material. The new plugs are made of black rubber, which is much better look and feel.

Thanks DanT, I'll probably buy the plugs and get either a Javo case for it.
