Just curious if I'm the only one who still finds myself using my T/5 PDA with the Treo 650. I just like the large screen for most PDA functions but I still love the Treo for the phone and push email.

Yes, I am using the Treo 650 in tandem with my Clie UX50. I had some initial technical problems exchanging data and using the Treo as a GPRS modem for the Clie, but now everthing is sorted. My idea is that the Clie will still be the primary device for composing email, editing documents, web browsing, and remote control of my office PC, because those functions benefit from the larger display and keyboard.

I'm another dual Palm user. I have a T|T3 and a Treo 600.
I mostly use the Treo for contacts, datebook, and money management and use the T3 for mostly displaying pictures, playing games, and reading ebooks.

I've had my Treo 600 for about two weeks and haven't touched my Sony Clie NR70V since it arrived.

Nope: I got my Unlocked GSM 650 a month ago and since I setup all of my apps and info I haven't used my T3. I'm still keeping it because I use it with my Wi-Fi Card and Power-To-Go when I'm on the road at hotspots, and as a trusty backup unit.

Put me down in the dual use category. I like the ability to use the wireless features of the Treo 600, but if I have to look at Office attachments, images, etc, I save them to my SD card and work with the files on my Tungsten T3. I also play Hellfire on my T3 in addition to reading e-books.

as i have 5 pda/pda phones (Ux50, treo 650, xda3, x50v (just for the VGA, i guess i will sell it), nokia 9300), i'm a little freak, wanna have every system cause i can't decide for one, i sometimes use two devices at the same time.

but not all the time, and not all the time the same two devices.

I use the Treo 650 for most things now, besides phone, utilites that my NX80 used to have on it. But I also use my NX for games, ebooks and other things:)

Not me, my Treo 650 (Verizon) is awesome!!! The fact that you can do everything with one hand is splended! Great sound quality and a strong PDA ... It reminds me of my old TG50 with a phone built in, I love it!

+1 to the "both" category. I'm still using my trusty NX70 and my Treo 600. Some things are just easier to do on one or the other. Plus I can't get away from my 2GB storage on the Clie with all my MP3s and movies(for those long flights sitting next to a guy who shoulda bought two seats). :D

hehehehe --- I always get stuck next to that guy! You must fly Delta!!! I always pray for a hot chick to sit next to me, it never happens! I always get a fat guy, actually one time I had something sitting next to me, looked like a middle aged lady with a full mustache, couldn't tell if it was a boy or girl? That was scary!

Welp, no matter how hard I tried, I just can't get rid of the TH55, it felt like I was trying to get rid of my soul, I just couldn't do it. Now I just learn to use both the TH55 and Treo together. The Treo for phone *Duh* hehe, movies and some gaming while I use the TH for everything else *appointments, manga, ebooks, documents* With the Bluetooth headset, I have my Treo on my belt while I use my TH in the hand to check on some stuff :D. (I can't get rid of CO, still the best organizer)

Lupe, do you use your Treo more for entertainment and the TH more for productivity? I thought it would be the opposite?

LupeValenz
07-16-2005, 04:41 PM
Pretty much. I like the longer battery life on the treo so I use that for my movie/music pleasure while everything else is TH. *Thumboard is nice, but bones is saying a lil something else, aching a bit so don't use it as my main pda anymore. Never had my hands ache with the TH.*

The only entertainment function I would mostly use on the TH would be reading PDF ebooks and reading my manga, stuff that requires 320x480 screen. The Treo can be both if you want it to but I have both so I like to use them both ^_^.

I restrict myself to one device now. I still have 610 and TH55 clie's hanging around for backup (my visor was stolen, and my gf has my old NX73v now, and I sold my TT5 a couple weeks ago).

The main reason I wanted a treo650 was because I can't live without my PDA, (contacts, pocket quicken, etc), but I got very tired of carrying around two devices. Yeah, I love my old TH55, and the screen is much smaller on the treo, but with Sprint's data plans I can use it much much more often then I ever could the TH55 to get online. And I do everything with my treo that I used to do with other pda's. Play games, read ebooks, etc etc. But I'm only 30, and my eyes are still able to focus on the smaller text :/

Yeah, but isn't it annoying using an adapter with the treo for the music. Also, I know that the treo's battery life is beyond stellar by your previous review but the TH still has the best battery life of any standard PDA and the bigger screen is better for movies. I guess you really could use both for either and in general you could get away with just the Treo and you need a BT cell phone with the TH for comparable usage. Still, Lupe, I think you've been wooed more by the software of pocket tunes and tcpmp in using the treo despite your missings of the beloved sony software.

Not really, I just keep the adapter on the headphones I use and it doesn't bother me at all. Its just like putting on the headphones for my TH, just smaller adapter. I'll give that the bigger screen is better for the movies, but I want movies to play flawlessly and like before, it sadden me to see the TH freeeze lil during intense scenes in Hero, the Forest scene. Nah, I'm not that big for Pockettunes, if I could, I would have the Media Launcher on my Treo but I can't. I used to use Pockettunes and I know what it can do :) I just hate that real player. I just like to use the Treo for those function because I can watch movies for a while and has no hit on battery life. So I'll listen or watch movies on the Treo while I'm working on the TH with my KB100 or just writing on it :). I am all over TCMP though, I never watched movies on my Palm as much as I do now since I can convert my movies easily. It is very nice to be able to watch Return of the King anywhere :D.

This is a bit off topic but, I just made a post on using the 650 on a mac with iSync. Lupe, you have been a great source of insight and info on my decision in buying and switching to a 650. I like to be cautious and wise in making a decision in purchasing anything of expense like this especially not getting a sony product. Anyway, I have a mac and I'd be very interested in any info you might have or know in the interaction with the 650 with iSync and any other facet of the mac.

I have been wanting to get the 650 but have been waiting for certain updates and software to be released. I'm about ready to buy one but want to make sure everything works with my mac before I take the jump. I also just want to say thanks Lupe, you have been a big help and I look forward to jumping to the Treo forum.

I too, am a member of the dual-device club.

I have never been a huge fan of convergence...total convergence, that is. The reason for this is simple: battery life. Until batteries are no longer an issue, total convergence of work devices/entertainment devices won't completely happen.

At least...not in my house it won't. :)

Treo 600 mainly for phone and e-mail (and some web browsing), but Tapwave Zodiac 1 for just about everything else. (I'm thinking of "trading in" the 600 for a Bluetooth-enabled phone.)

Update: Traded the Treo for a Nokia 6600-- I've "diverged" my devices.

I am flying solo with my Treo 650. Someone mentioned that they couldn't give up their 2GB on their Clie (I had an NX80v). Well, neither could I until I picked up a 2GB SD. Now I'm right back where I've started. I do miss some things...the bigger screen, the scroll wheel, the better camera, the memory stick (cuz I have a Sony VAIO laptop).

But I've gotten over most of it and have really enjoyed carrying just one gadget. It has simplified my life.

I have moved virtually everything over to the Treo: children's pictures for slideshows with Resco Viewer, Quick News, several MP3's, Agendus - pretty much everything less the numerous games I have on my UX.

I'm still gonna carry the UX for the time being though...because old habits die hard. :D

I too am slowing getting back into the duo club. I love the treo but, there is just somethings I want my Clie for. I have my TH and I have just stumbled upon my fiance's NX80 which she has chosen to officially not use anymore. Her loss, my gain, oh well. I really wanted to get a UX again but.... I don't know anymore. Anyway, The 650 is my perfect phone. The future upgrades of the next palm platform, EV-DO, and a 1.3mp camera are great but, I am happy with the speed and the current OS and I don't need anything more than the built in camera. I just want to figure out what PDA I'll be using for a day to day basis.

I hope you can stop the buying but to be frank it's something that will not happen as Im using now a Tréo 270 and to be frank - I can only use it as a normal phone - nothing else - so few years from now you will see (feel ) that the LD, 650 as well as T5 are way back beyond technology :D

After being monogamous for a while it’s now a ménage a Tréo for me with the 650 and the LifeDrive. I guess I could do it all on the Tréo, but what’s not to like about streaming and browsing in bed with WiFi and keeping a couple of full length movies on your PDA.

I also find that in meetings if you are using the stylus on the LD people assume you are making notes, but if you are using the thumboard on the 650 people think you are just fiddling with your phone (or texting your mistress or something). The fact that in both cases I’m probably playing Zuma is nothing to do with it. ;)

The way I see it is this...

If you don't mind carrying two units around, by all means, carry two units around. I like 'em for different reasons too so I will continue to carry both...at least until I can find a THIRD thing to carry around!!!
