View Full Version : TMP 1.0 beta
Lil’ Red Spider has released a public beta of TMP, a list-style appointment viewer/manager that scrolls seamlessly and is highly configurable. [details (http://www.1src.com/?m=show&id=890)]
I was actually surprised. TMP is nice, clean, and very easy to use. It supports portrait and landscape too. Nice job!

Yes you're right I've been looking for something like this for quite a while. I love to be able to glance and add all in one screen quickly and easily. Easy, clean and simple to use. I hope they add the ability to add todo's eventually. Love it so far...

You know it's funny, just last night I was looking through the various datebooks for an option like this. Of course, they don't. I just emailed the Spider company to see if they would add the option of leaving out days that have no appointments. With the small fonts, one could potentially see several months worth of appointments on a single page (assuming you don't have alot of appointments). This could be a great app.

A5 (http://www.a5agenda.com/) is a freeware application that allows you to list the appointments in small font and you can exclude days without events, handles todo tasks as well. It has been THE application on my palm so far but with TMP that could possibly change (I would prpbably still keep it on there it's THAT good). I am really loving the pop-up calender option in TMP and the layout is beautiful.

Yes, very clean and pretty GUI! I could see where this would be a great app for someone who doesn't need all the bells and whistles of a DateBK5 or Agendus full-blown PIM application, but for me it would be a redundant application. Nice work by the developers!

 It is defiantly a very handsome program with very clean lines, fonts and landscapes. It looks so Clié worthy and I really like all of its features. This date manager is a keeper. How much do you think it will cost?
Hello,
Thanks to everyone on this thread for the positive comments and the suggestions, they are very much appreciated. I wanted to answer to the questions posted.
Create and edit to-do items: This is in the plan and should appear fairly soon after the initial release.
Skip no-appointment days: Was slated in the early design and prototype, but I perceived potential code size and performance problems and ultimately opted to leave it out in the initial version. It is on the wish list and I will continue to consider it.
Price: Not finalized, but I hope to release v1.0 soon so the information will surface then.
.. I just emailed the Spider company..
You can just call us 'Spider' if you like. :)
Thanks again and regards,
Simon

Welcome to 1src, SAkp. Thanks for personally answering questions and giving details about what to expect in the future.
My suggestions...
1. Map to 1st hard key. Currently on my TH55/E, I cannot set TMP to launch from the first hard key.
2. Three letter initial for the days. Probably add week number and day number option.
3. Appointment icon support, would be nice but not necessary as it could impact the speed of TMP.
4. TMP lite. Free. Read only version. :)

Very nice application Simon. This really might going to be my default datebook. I only have some minor suggestions:
- I second the week number option
- Category-support would be super. As Joel said Icon support may impact the speed of TMP, but maybe color differentiation can do the trick (like the Tungsten T3/T5 enhanced PIM)
- I will be very handy to display alarms and notes symbols.
I am very curious how this application will develope in the future. Keep on going :) :)

- One thing I'd really like to see is somehow be able to resize the todo height or remove/hide/reduce height of the big bar between the day view and todo why? because on the ux (320 height) this extremely cuts down on what you see.
- The colors would be nice instead of icons.
- Yes I noticed the alarm and notes were missing also, hopefully that will appear soon.

Well, I like TMP's look, but it is not useful to me until it has the ability to hide days without appointments. I agree with the "Lite" version, would be nice. Until then, I'll take Guildenstern's suggestion to use A5--it's not as pretty as TMP, but does everything that TMP currently cannot do. I will be happy to ditch it, though, when TMP is up-to-speed.

until it has the ability to hide days without appointments.
I hope this will be an option that you can choose if you want, because I like to have the days without appointments to be shown. In this way I can easily see if I have a busy or quiet period ahead.

1. I really like being able to see very clearly the days of the week and what days are available, so far, TMP’s layout is the best for me – nice and clear.
2. All of the other DA’s have appointments icons, personally I think icon take up memory and aren’t very helpful. From the buttons preferences I put TMP on the first button.
3. I rather have the “no appointments” not show – leave it blank.
Thanks for the welcome, Joel. To be forthright I have been reading 1src (a fan since ClieSource) for a long while and have posted very occasionally under the member id gunhed (http://www.1src.com/forums/member.php?u=2873). I thought it appropriate to use a different id when representing lilredspider.com.
I will note all of the points, but also wanted to comment on some of them.
- Display of note/alarm/repeat icons per event is at the top of the list together with creating/editing to-do items, for implementation in an update following the initial release.
- Hi res icon support is planned and there should be a prefs option whether to display them or not. May take a while, don't look for within the first few updates.
- The to-do items currently have a fixed minimum height (no matter how tiny the font chosen) because they use the standard check box controls. I am wary of deviating too far from the Palm UI guidelines, but custom check boxes are a remote possibility.
- Skipping no-appointment days, if and when implemented, would be an option.
- The 'No appointments' text currently uses the untimed-events colour. I am re-thinking this and may give it its own assignable colour. One could then make it easily differentiable or invisible by colour choice.

Simon

I take it you use the datebook database available on the handheld? I use KeySuite, it has its own database files. Would that work for me?
Hi Skaah,
Yes, TMP uses only the built-in Date Book database. At best, only the basic data common with that database would show.

Simon

I like it when I map the program to my schedule button that it pulls up the program and goes to the current day/week. Then if I scroll through to another week and want to go back to the CURRENT WEEK I like being able to just press the schedule button AGAIN and have it take me back to the current week/day again. TMP doesn't do this at the moment... you press it again and nothing happens ....
Also - I vote for the option to be able to disable the "No appointments" text. Just leaving the day blank is sufficient in my opinion.
Another cool feature I found in a clock program (Palmary Clock) is that you can set it so that as soon as you insert the palm into a cradle it will pull up the program automatically. So you could set up TMP so when you insert it into the cradle TMP and the current week/day comes up.
I will buy the program for sure when it comes out. Hope my ideas are useful ! :)

it has a really very good and clear design - i think the best design for a datebookapplication on palm os devices!
it would be the really best program with the functions of datebk5 and the design of TMP!!!
- May be there will be the possibility to show a graphical week view - i need this view very often. it is the best overview at looking for free times ...
- links to contacs would be nice
- possiblity for todo and appointment templates
- possibility for predefined views
thank you very much - i will watching this programm for future ..

Great, great program. I've played with Agendus for several years off and on, but it has too many features that I simply don't use. TMP is exactly what I've been waiting for!!! One suggestion that might be helpful to some people (well, to me at least), would be compatability with MakeSpot. MakeSpot lets you set custom display colors for certain days, and its helpful for montly calendar views especially. Even without this, TMP is close to perfect! Hopefully the suggestions don't get carried away, and TMP stays relatively simple and bells and whistles free!

I'm loving TMP a lot. It's got a really sleek look, IMO, and it's so darn easy to use. I'm the (really REALLY) lazy kinda guy who rarely reads the manual (when supplied), so I just dive right into my new stuff. Usually there's a learning curve. This time, there wasn't a learning curve: it's that easy to pick up.
Also, I agree with Joel: it would be nice to have a Lite version of TMP, where you can only read entries. That would be extremely useful for people like me who always need to take a quick look at PIM stuff without having to dig through tabs to get there. (I don't know if that sentence came out right.... ).
Like jlethbridge, I've played with Agendus' newer versions many times and find that there's too many bells and whistles with it...so I'm still stickin' with my old version of Agendus: 6.0! TMP has exactly what I need. If a newer version came out with Contacts and Memo support, I'm definitely dumping my Agendus!
It looks so Clié worthy
I totally agree with that too! :D Haha!
Great work SAkp/Spider !!!

Some suggestions:
*pressing the scroll wheel (clies) or 4-waypad should go to today's date.
*calendar dates that contain appointments should be underlined.
* as mentioned before: ability to hide empty days...
regards
