Just got my new T3 (thanks to everyone here who offered suggestions or posted their own reviews) and am running into a few problems with upgrading my system.

I've got a lot of 3rd party apps, including DateBook, and Wordsmith which use Palm PIM databases.

I orginally tried using the option to transfer the existing username and PIM data for my desktop, and then syncing. That worked partially well (alot of my Dbk additional info was lost)

But then I tried upgrading the desktop from the original 4.1.2 version that was on the CD to the latest 4.1.4 version...and it just wouldn't upgrade.

Since I've got a whole list of upgrades to do (the Desktop, Hot Sync manager, the T3 system upgrades for SD cards, PIM Support update, Web Pro, Phone Link, Outlook conduits, Universal Keyboards drivers, etc) I don't want to start off with potential problems / bugs.

Has anyone had any problems with updating the Palm desktop from 4.1.2 to 4.1.4?

Or should I just start off with an absolutely clean install?

I'l like to keep my username (since a lot of 3rd party apps base their reg code on the user name), and also I need to figure out how to transfer PIM data (e.g., address book)

I'm thinking I should:
- backup my existing Palm Desktop installation
- uninstall and delete all Desktop files
- do a hard reset on the T3 to clean off all data
- install the desktop fresh

How do I get the same user name? Just use the same one when setting up the new T3?

Are there specific PIM data files I should copy into the new desktop file hierarchy to transfer my existing data to the new system?

It seemed there were redundant conduits - e.g., a conduit for Calendar AND a conduit for DateBook....is that a result of upgrading the desktop? Or is that a legacy of the Palm Desktop install, and I should delete the old conduits (e.g., Date Book)

TIA!
Ed

Does anyone know why I can't get the

Congratulations on your T3 purchase. I have a page on my website dedicated to migrating between devices. I recommend reading that.

I didn't have any problems upgrading to 4.1.4. However, you can uninstall the existing desktop and then install 4.1.4 in the same location. Your user name and data should be preserved across this process, but you may have to reinstall some third-party conduits. Even so, I always recommend backing up your user directory just in case a rogue neutrino happens by.

The old legacy conduits are still present, but shouldn't be used nor be deleted. Just ignore them. Make sure that you install the T3 data manager patch, in fact, all applicable patches. That's best done when the device is clean, but will work at any time.
