OK. I just got my WLAN card, and I want to do a wireless hotsync from WITHIN my network. I followed the directions, and I followed the instructions. When it says put in the primary PC's name I dont know what it is. Where can I find this pc name? It also says to put in it's ip adress. I have dynamic ip adress (cable and linksys router) so can I sync or not???? How can I sync even though I have a dynamic ip address?

Click hotsync on your computer and choose setup. Hit the network tab. Then hit the TCP/IP settings button. Ignore the Primary PV name the exclamation poits that you have are correct..there you will see your Primary PC addy for you network and if there is none enter a subnet... 255.255.255.0. Hit OK. then click your HOTSYNC icon again and make sure you click on network so that there is checkmark next to it. HOTSYNC in the cradle and you should be good to go.

Good Luck.;)

If I dont put an ip adress as the Primary PC addy it says that the connection cannot be established. It didn't work. Thanx a lot though. There was no primary pc name, although I do only want to sync it to one computer. I just need to see if there is one ip for my laptop (primary pc) and not just 192.168.1.101. It makes me mad. Is there anything I can do!

BTW- Thankyou very much for the response, but I still think the problem is in the ip addy of the primary pc

To determine your PC's IP address:
If running WinNT, Win2K and etc, choose Run from the Start Menu and enter cmd as the program you want to run. This starts a DOS window. In that DOS window type ipconfig /all. You should see a local Ethernet adapter listed whose name matches the Ethernet card in your PC. Under that you'll see the IP address and also the subnet mask.

If you're running an older OS like Win95, choose the DOS icon in the Start Menu instead of run-> cmd.

The only tricky thing is if you're using DHCP instead of having a permantently assigned IP address for your PC. In this case, your IP can change after rebooting, so if you find that HotSync stops working, do the above again to see if your PC's IP changed.

Here are my settings for use with my LInksys router.

Primary PC name !!

Primary PC Address 192.168.1.100

Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Those are what I entered on my Clie which I copied from the TCP/IP settings in HOTSYNC. Are you using any encryption? That could be stopping your HOTSYNC from operating correctly as well, if you need a WEP key. But let's just take this slow for now.

My settings are

Primary PC name: !!
Primary PC adress: 192.168.1.101 (says it is that in my TCP/IP settings in setup in hotsync manager, I also just tried 100)

and I did it with and without a subnet mask.

Didnt work

That is what you enter on your Clie in the primary PC setup under the hotsync menu.  Only thing that isn't listed there is what you put on the first line.... Primary PC name....on that line you put  !! ( the 2 exclamation points).

Thanx for all your help both of you. Sheik-I opened the hotsync manager on my taskbar and I thought what the hell, let me check off network. So I did a check (now usb and network are checked) and viola!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanx everybody

Sheik-Every time you turn your comp on and off do you have to check your ip adress in the hotsync settings?

From what you posted, it looks like your PC's IP address is 192.168.1.101.

DNS machines are domain name servers that your ISP uses to translate IP addresses of sites into the friendly names we type in for URLs. They aren't your PCs.

When you click your hotsync icon on your desktop...is there a checkmark next to network? Click the HOTYNC icon once and scroll up to network and click once to get a check mark next to it if there isn't one there.

Sheik- Do you have win-hand working and the hotsync from places outside of your own network? If you do, a little help with that would be great.

I really thankyou for taking the time to help me, and if you have questions on anything else, i will try to respond ASAP!
