i need some advices .. i just broke my laptop's hdd today .. i'm thinking to try redhat 9 .... any ideas how to get the linux? is it still free? is it good???
i'm window xp lover so .. i wanna give it a try ...

First off: no. Don't even try unless you're willing to forget just about every thing you know. And Red Hat is a terrible distro to learn Linux on.
If you're really wanting to go to Linux, go SuSE or Mandrake.
I agree - go Mandrake or SuSE - both are much easier to setup than the Red Hat distro.
There's quite a steep learning curve with linux still but it's not a bad idea to put it on a separate partition to mess around with.
I wouldn't recommend trying to move completely over to it yet.

SuSE is really the best distro. It combines power with ease of use. Even Linus uses a near-default install of SuSE on his home PC. (Obviously with the latest kernel, seeing how he writes it :P)
