Tried searching, but couldn't find anything...:p

For some strange reason, my Clie decided to go into a crazy reset loop, where it keeps on crashing the minute it reaches the silvery grey "Palm Powered" screen. I was doing a routine soft reset (i do one monthly to get rid of any extra a68k files from previously deleted programs), when it all began. Everything was fine, until the Palm Powered screen came up, then it just gives me a "Fatal Error" and no explanation, just to hit the reset button. I probably hit that damn button 20 times before I gave up and booted up my TJ37 in "safe mode" with a warm reset, where you hold the "up" button (left of the jog dial) while pressing the reset button. In safe mode, everything works fine. However, when I do a regular reset, i'm back at the reset loop. I have no idea what is going on. I don't have any hacks or the like installed, except Lightspeed. But I disabled that in safe mode, and yet the device still runs the loop. This is what I have installedon my Sony Clie TJ37:

Adobe Reader
Agendus (version 6)
Agile Messenger
Clie Mail
Clie Photo Editor (a later addition)
Due Yesterday
Documents to Go Premium 6.004
Filez
Inbox to Go Wireless
Lightspeed 2.0
MMPlayer 2.13
Progect
Sol Free
Win-Hand Anywhere

Recently I installed Appshelf to give it a try, and i also installed the clipper and capture DAs along with DA Helper and DA Launcher 5. I used to have Palm VNC on my Clie until I replaced it with Win-Hand. I don't think any of these replacements or additions will make a difference where my reset loop kicks in.

If anyone has any idea what's going on, i'm all ears! :D

thanks guys

update:

now i've got a new type of reset loop. instead of just saying "Fatal Error", it's giving me a reason for its crashing:

"Emul 68kMain.c, Line:403,
illegal instruction 0008 at
address 00A86792"

not a clue what that means. but if anyone has any idea, i'd be really helpful if you'd drop a line... :)

Try and backup your Clie, if you haven't already (WarmReset, run MSBackup).

Then,

Warm reset, remove the last program you installed, reset.

If it crashes again, warm reset, remove the next last program you installed, reset.

Continue until it stops crashing.

I suspect you have a conflict or a program is corrupted...

Since it runs fine in Safe Mode, it's probably a program that runs in the background, or something is corrupted or missing. I hope your not over-over clocking your 37, that can cause serious damage. The main programs that you should look at:

Adobe Reader
Agile Messenger
Clie Photo Editor (a later addition)
Inbox to Go Wireless
Lightspeed 2.0
MMPlayer 2.13
Progect (dunno what this is)

So, do what Cyker said. What's probably causing the problem is not a program that came on the CLIE itself, but outdated software that wasn't ment for the OS, unstable software, or software that runs in the background like DA's and others. You should probably start there.

I thought it was Lightspeed, since I was underclocking a lot of my programs. I've never overclocked anything before, so that shouldn't be a problem. However, when I disabled Lightspeed under "safe mode", I still get the reset loop after a regular soft reset. I'm going to test MMPlayer, and see if it's that. I doubt it, but it's worth a shot.

MMPlayer is kind of a raw, unpolished product the last time I checked. It works, but it's rough around the edges. I haven't used it in a while, so if you disagree, feel free to test it last.

Well I'll be damned... it was MMPlayer after all! I did exactly what Cyker said (which was exactly what I had started after making my first post), and tested the apps one by one. Eventually, I narrowed it down to Lightspeed and MMPlayer. I never overclock, ever, with Ligthspeed simply because of the huge risks associated with overclocking anything. Then I tested MMPlayer. Removed it from my TJ37, and haven't had a crash since. I'll definitely have to report this with the developers. Maybe I can help them out in avoiding problems like this with their future problems.

Thanks for the help!
