View Full Version : Has anyone insured their PDA?

The thought never crossed my mind with my prior PDA's, but with the NX costing as much as it does, I'm thinking about insuring it. I have my laptop insured in the event I accidentally dropped it or spilled something on it. I bought my NX through Sonystyle so I don't have the Best Buy or Circuit City extended warranty like many of you have. It's a PDA. It goes with me just about everywhere. Accidents are inevitable. I would just hate to have a $600 paper weight if something happened to it and the apparent physical damage would void the Sony warranty.
So I was just wondering if anyone else has insured theirs with anything other than retail store-bought extended warranties?

There are many people here who insured their PDA. I am one of them. I insured my Clie NX70V in CompUSA.
You can search the forum and I am sure that you'll find many thread on this topic.

He's asking where you can insure your PDA after you've bought it, since he didn't buy it at CompUSA or BB or CircuitCity. Also, aren't all the threads about PDA insurance gone after the database corruption?

Is anyone from the UK able to recommend an insurer for my NX70V?

I bought mine through Sony and got the PDA Replacement insurance plan through CompUSA. No problem!

Somehow Comp USA insures handhelds as long as you can demonstrate that it is operational.
Yes, there were threads in the past...

It really is a good idea T. I have had three handhelds insured at CompUSA. And it's right, they will insure a handheld that has been bought anywhere, as long as it is operational.

So all I have to do is bring my NX70 and show them that it works and then give them $100 bucks and I'm set?

Should work. Of course, each story may handle it differently. Some require a reciept. If you can print out your invoice from Sonystyle.com that should work.
Also, you don't have to give them $100. There is 1-year coverage availible for $70.

Yes, I did run a search . And yes, I did find your "Question about CompUSA insurance on NX70V" thread. The problem is, I'm stationed at Eielson AFB, Alaska, which is 8 hours away from the closest CompUSA. That's why I added the line "...if anyone else has insured theirs with anything other than retail store-bought extended warranties?"

there is a company out there that does insure PDAs, there was a thread that had a url and all the agreement info (in the way back time, roughly last Sunday). It was very affordable if I remember correctly, like $60 for $500 worth of coverage with no deductible per year. I was always thinking about getting it but put it off, now I'm stuck because I don't remember the compay. Google searches haven't helped either. *Sigh*

On one of the lost threads I gave the following information:
State Farm offers a "Personal Articles" policy. It may vary a little because state laws prevail and you may have to have other insurance with them. But, other insurance companies likely offer a similar product. Here's what I have:
Annual premium: $30
Deductable: NONE!
Policy Value: $3,000
Covers: Lost, stolen, accidental breakage (including drops!)
I have two PDAs, my son's Toshiba laptop and Epson printer on this policy. Makes for a good night's sleep! :D

I remember that thread...vaguely. But it was before "The Great Crash", so I wouldn't be able to find it either. I'm hoping that whoever posted it will see this thread and repost that info.

Check your Home / apartment insurance policy before you drop money on a needless purchase.
Without any extra riders, my home insurance policy covers damage or loss to things like my PDA's, laptop, and desktop. Of course, there are things like the deductible to consider (I have none), but do a bit of research first - see what you kind of coverage you already have.

if you file a claim under home owner's insurance (for anything) you risk losing it. There are a lot of companies that drop customers for making a claim, I had a friend who lost his coverage because his hot water tank blew. He managed to get coverager from another company but it was a serious pain in the butt. I would rather spend the extra money on specialized coverage for my PDA then risk losing my home owners.
