Well, I have a UX50 and I just got the only thing that is even comparable. I just wanted to ask all the TH users what it does better. Also, I planned on getting a 2 or 4gb memory stick and use the TH as more of a entertainment device. It's battery life is awesome and going on the internet in landscape finally will be awesome. Any recommendations on how I should delegate each use? I was thinking about getting the treo 650 and selling my UX but I'm not sure. All I know is that if I don't like it I know I can sell it at a pretty good price. But, I don't think I'm gonna get rid of this for a long time.

You should probably keep using your UX50 for internet. TH55 has a bigger screen and can now browse in landscape, UX50 still has the advantage of the thumbpad. I don't consider that to be a small detail. I don't know if it makes any difference but, also, the bluetooth on your UX50 is designed to FCC standards and the bluetooth on your TH55 is not. Just to point that out, don't know if it means anything significant to you and your situation or usage, but it could affect compatibility? TH55 is a beast of a music machine (basically UX50 + more battery life), and trades in the UX50's capacity for higher max video framerate for a bigger and better screen. I think the trade worked out pretty damned well, so I would say it wins there as well.

Also, as things stand as of right now, your TH55 won't work with a 4GB MS. I use a 2GB stick in mine. A thing of beauty, it is.

Well, I know the 4GB CF for the NX series didn't work. Although, the 4GB memory stick is only for sony products. I'm pretty sure it'll work but any input before the large purchase would be of great help. As for the video aspect, I thought the TH55 had the same internals. Thus, traslating into the same performance for video. Also, if I have all my favorite sites bookmarked, I could just surf landscape on the TH in it's full glory large screen, right? One of the biggest things I wanted to make sure worked properly was Media Launcher. I'm pretty sure you guys it to work. I don't mind if it's not landscape as long as the video is landscape and can read MP4. Any input on how I can fully utilize both units would be great. Thanks everybody.

People have gotten MP4's to work on TH55 (I use CliePet's Full Media Player app), but I'm not familiar with the movie player of Media Launcher itself. The internals are probably not exactly the same, since UX50 can handle video with large resolutions at a full 30fps out of the box, while TH55 has to be pushed to do the same at about 19 - 24fps. My guess is the TH55 has a slightly lower clock speed on its video DSP.

I'm also completely sure that the 4GB memory stick won't work in the TH55. Its version of PalmOS doesn't have the necessary drivers. But like I said, the 2GB stick works like a charm. Go ahead and get it. Hell, get two, it'll be cheaper than one 4GB and you'll be happier than all hell.

As for the web surfing, I was thinking more along the lines of logging into accounts, filling out forms, entering data, and posting on forums. You've got a more fully-featured web experience on your UX50 (unless you're ultra-fast with Graffiti or something).

May I ask where you bought it and how much you paid for it? I'd love to buy one as a backup...also would love to have that Bluetooth functionality!

Thanks!

I got it for $387. I don't understand why the 4GB won't work. I didn't know that the TH had a lower framerate than the UX. If anyone else can testify that the 4GB doesn't work, that would be great. Oh, I got it on ebay.

The MS limitation is based on the memory that Palm OS can address. Also, where did you get one for that price? Do they have anymore?

2Gb is the max you can go.

There is no framerate problem except that when you view video in landscape, it is an orientation that is not native to the device. The TH has a very high framerate if you view video in portrait, or if your video is formatted pre-rotated. I can usually get it up to at least 24fps.

I can too, but that's lower than the UX.

How does the video look? Does it still look smooth? Do you notice the slower framerates? Also, is there anyway to partition the 4GB so I can use it as 2 2GB? I'm guessing no but it's still worth asking. Oh, I know the 2GB memory stick pro duo is coming out very soon. Anyone know where they are available now? Back to my original question, is there anything that the TH does specifically well over the UX?

I have a sony camera. The 4GB is compatible with that, right? So if I use it to put pictures on and I transfer it to my TH, what's going to happen? Will it just not read it? Will it only read part of it, what?

Anything that the TH does specifically well over the UX? The battery, the screen, and the width. That's all I can think of. That's probably all there is.

Partitions? I don't think so. I've never seen anyone partition any memory stick to use on their Clie. If you can show me an instance, I will tell you that I believe it will work for your 4GB stick. I do not believe it is possible.

You notice the slower framerates when you push the video past the TH55's capabilities, but that is somewhat difficult to do. 24fps video is actually DVD framerate, so the TH55 is perfectly capable at giving outstanding video quality. The only difference is that the UX can do this at full resolution and full bitrate (768kbps). The TH55 cannot do that, so you have to cut a little bit here and there.
