That is an impressive deal.... tempting even for me who's finally starting to pinch pennies... I will have to think about it....

At work we buy the Samsung 243T for $1799-$1899

That's a great price. :) The only thing that makes me go hmmmm, is the viewing angle. Did I read it right at only "89." And what's its resonse time?

Here's more info:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2405fpw/English/about.htm#Specifioications

What's striking is, compared with HP's L2335, which won the 23" head to head in I think this month's MacWorld, Dell doubled the brightness (500 nits) and contrast ratio (1000:1) -- HP's brightness is 250 nits and has a contrast ratio of 500:1. Dell is also uses less power at 80W(max) compared to HP' s 100W(max). [HP L2335 specs URL: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/monitors/tft/l2335/specs.html]

As for the viewing angle, it says, +/-89 so it is actually 178 degrees. ;) This must be really a bright monitor that you can still see the display at an almost 90-degree angle!

Anyway, I also like the integrated memory card reader at the side and additional USB ports.. :D

Another surprising thing is, this monitor is 24"! -- 1" bigger than the L2335 and Apple's 23" and yet cheaper.

It lists the grayscale and black and white, if the color is in the same range then very cool.

Something about brightness. 1000:1 is great for a very bright room, but for colors it blows them out. To high and the lighter colors get lost, to low and the darker colors get lost. Tis why most LCDs only stick at 400:1, since that can truly display 16.7 million colors, it's the prime spot for color work. An average CRT is only 110 nits.

all those brightness changes sound like nit picking to me... ;)

FYI, the price of the monitor increased. With the coupon it's still $1,124. I wonder where the 10% off all monitors went.

Like most deals with Dell, if you sneeze, they're gone. :)

Great, screen, if it had two DVI ports I would consider it for my older Mac and PC. OK, I would even consider now, the PC doesn't need DVI. I still need to replace my 22" CRT, its second port finally died, so now only the G4 is plugged into it. The convergence is so bad now, that I had to set the resolution down to 1152x864 just to read e-mails(which I use this comp for.) and even then it's still fuzzy. Plus the monitor is starting to get darker. I had to recalibrate it to compensated. But I can wait, since it's not my main screen.

What's the response time on the color? The gray and BW doesn't tell me anything, since those can be totally different then a color pixel.

ExtremeTech's tests show that response time is 12-16ms. :)

I saw that, I'm assuming that's correct. Dell's specs threw me off, because they only specify the non-color values. In the past othe displays would only list those values, when the color was actually 24ms or higher. I just know that 16ms or faster equals no ghosting on anything. 60 to 80+ fps :) My HD display is perfect, my PB screen has a little tiny incy bit, my Samsung 15" is a little be more noticeable at 24ms.

I trust Dell's screens, most of my friend have them and they haven't died yet. I also really like the fact this thing has a SVideo port.

Anyways congrats, post when you get it. :)

It would take a lot to knock off the 20" Cinema Display from my personal WOW list..

Damn, why is everyone else getting cool new hardware? The closest I've been this year was a $4 dollar promotional flash drive...
Great monitor Reggie, congrats :). Be sure to post a review when you get it.
